Description
Course Description: This course is designed to provide instruction of aides who will provide basic direct care to assist residents living in Kansas Adult Care Homes. This is a two-part course. Part 1 identifies Federal OBRA training requirements that must be met prior to a student’s direct resident contact. Additionally, Part 1 contains the instructional content to be successfully completed before the student can be employed in a direct care capacity as a Trainee II. The task checklist provided at the end of part 1 serves as a performance evaluation tool in addition to instructor-developed tasks. Part 2 of the course enhances the basic care instruction found in part 1, highlighting documentation practices, end of life care, dementia care and much more (Quoted from KDHE, 2008).
Length: The entire course will lasts 3-10 weeks for a minimum of 90 hours. The times and dates of the course will vary depending on instructor availability. As required by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services, the students will spend at least 45 hours onsite in the classroom and 45 contact-hours in the lab or at an appropriate off-site clinical setting. The clinical rotations will be held during the same hours as the didactic.
Admissions Procedure: Application forms must be completed in person at the Delores Homes Training Center or online and be supported by proof of identification/SSN. In accordance with the KDADS requirements, students must be 16 years old to take the course. Students may submit either a high school transcript, GED, or college transcript. Students who do not have at least a high school diploma must receive a score of at least 4 on the Work-Keys Reading for Information test. Finally, students must also provide documentation of a signed medical waiver of responsibility, proof of influenza vaccine if in season, and TB screening or chest x-ray before being allowed in the clinical setting.

Student will be invoiced based on the amount of time the students was enrolled in the class. Refund is calculated once a formal request to withdrawal is received. Ranging from 75% to 0%, the refund is calculated based on attendance in the course.
