Job Description
The Alternative Education Support Para provides instructional,
behavioral, technological, and operational support to students and staff
at Goddard Academy. This position is designed to meet the unique
needs of an alternative education setting by providing flexible support in
classrooms, virtual learning environments, student supervision, media
and communications, and In-School Suspension (ISS). The employee
works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, counselors, and
support staff to promote student success while maintaining a safe,
respectful, and engaging learning environment.
High school diploma or GED.
● Meet Kansas State Board of Education requirements for
paraprofessionals.
● Ability to work effectively with students exhibiting academic,
behavioral, and emotional needs.
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
● Working knowledge of computers, Google Workspace, Microsoft
Office, and educational technology.
● Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred:
● Associate degree or higher.
● Experience working in alternative education or at-risk student
programs.
● Experience supervising students in structured settings.
● Experience with virtual learning platforms.
● Experience with graphic design, photography, video editing,
website management, or social media communications.
Instructional Support
● Assist certified staff with classroom instruction and student
learning activities.
● Provide individual and small-group academic support.
● Reinforce instructional concepts and classroom expectations.
● Encourage student engagement and positive participation.
● Support behavior intervention strategies consistent with district
and school expectations.
Virtual Learning Support
● Supervise students participating in online or virtual coursework.
● Assist students with logging into learning platforms and
navigating instructional software.
● Monitor student progress and communicate concerns to teachers
and administrators.
● Encourage accountability, organization, and successful
completion of coursework.
Media and School Communications
● Assist in creating school newsletters, promotional materials,
flyers, presentations, and digital communications.
● Capture photographs and videos of school activities for
district-approved communications.
● Assist with maintaining the school’s website and social media
platforms in accordance with district guidelines.
● Support staff with technology integration and basic
troubleshooting.
In-School Suspension (ISS)
● Supervise students assigned to ISS.
● Ensure students remain engaged in assigned academic work.
● Maintain appropriate documentation regarding attendance,
behavior, and work completion.
● Communicate student concerns to administration.
Student Supervision
● Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, passing
periods, and other assigned activities.
● Assist with maintaining a safe and orderly campus.
