Job Description
Public Safety Dispatchers are the true first responders. They are responsible for answering emergency and administrative calls, gathering critical information, and quickly communicating that information to Law Enforcement, EMS, and Fire personnel.
Position Requirements
We are looking for dependable, motivated individuals who can remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
Applicants must:
- Have a High School Diploma or GED
- Be able to accurately type at least 30 words per minute
- Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills
- Be able to effectively multitask and pay close attention to detail
- Be willing and able to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Successfully complete applicant testing, a background investigation, psychological examination, and drug screening
Previous public safety dispatching experience is preferred, but not required. We will provide the necessary training and certifications to successful applicants.
What You'll Do
As a Public Safety Dispatcher, your responsibilities will include:
- Answering 9-1-1 emergency calls and administrative telephone calls
- Obtaining accurate and important information from callers
- Entering call information into the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system
- Dispatching and communicating with Law Enforcement, EMS, and Fire personnel by radio
- Relaying critical information to emergency responders
- Providing professional and compassionate assistance to callers during emergencies
- Performing other duties necessary to support emergency communications operations
Training & Certification
Successful applicants will receive specialized training and will become certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and NCIC within six months of hire. Employees are required to maintain all necessary certifications throughout their employment.
Schedule
This position requires scheduling flexibility, including the ability to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays. Employees work approximately 14 days per month and receive a three-day weekend off every other week.
