Job Title: Laborer Job Description

This role supports a precast concrete production crew and focuses on learning and performing a wide range of general labor and basic construction tasks. You work under the guidance of a crew leader to help construct, assemble, and strip forms and molds for precast concrete wall panels, while contributing to a safe, efficient, and team-oriented work environment.

Responsibilities

+ Work under the direct supervision of a crew leader to learn and apply basic precast concrete skills, including setting up and oiling forms, laying mesh, tying reinforcing bars and steel, setting inserts, striking off, stripping forms, and cleaning up the work area.

+ Construct, assemble, and strip forms and molds for precast concrete wall panels according to work instructions and drawings.

+ Perform carpentry-related tasks such as measuring, cutting, and assembling wood and metal forms to specified dimensions.

+ Assist with concrete placement, vibration, finishing, and curing to ensure panels meet quality standards.

+ Install embeds, insulation, rebar, and hardware in accordance with drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.

+ Use hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely and efficiently during daily tasks.

+ Patch, finish, and detail precast panels as required to achieve the desired final appearance and structural integrity.

+ Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift.

+ Communicate effectively with supervisors and teammates in English and Spanish to coordinate work and resolve issues.

+ Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations, including the guidance provided in the safety manual and by safety personnel.

+ Assist with loading, rigging, and moving precast panels as needed to support production and shipping activities.

+ Show consistent improvement in the ability to perform assigned work and proactively seek opportunities to stay involved in productive tasks during the workday.

+ Inform the crew leader when available for additional tasks and take initiative to support the fabrication of precast concrete products.

+ Arrive regularly and on time in accordance with company attendance policies.

+ Demonstrate loyalty to the organization, mutual respect for other personnel, and a strong team-oriented attitude.

+ Look for ways to improve work processes and contribute ideas that enhance efficiency and quality.

+ Assume responsibility for maintaining plant safety in line with established safety procedures and direction from safety leadership.

Essential Skills

+ Ability to perform general labor tasks in a construction or manufacturing environment.

+ Capability to construct, assemble, and strip forms and molds for precast concrete wall panels.

+ Experience or aptitude in working with concrete, including placement, vibration, finishing, and curing.

+ Skill in patching, finishing, and detailing precast panels to meet quality standards.

+ Ability to read and follow shop drawings, blueprints, and written work instructions.

+ Strong communication skills in English and Spanish to collaborate effectively with supervisors and teammates.

+ Reliability in maintaining regular and punctual attendance.

+ Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and show mutual respect for coworkers.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Comfort working with tape measures and other measuring tools to ensure accurate dimensions.

+ Experience with general construction or concrete work in an indoor or outdoor facility.

+ Familiarity with rigging, loading, or moving precast panels or similar heavy materials.

+ Willingness to learn new skills under the guidance of a crew leader and show consistent improvement.

+ Ability to remain engaged in productive work throughout the workday and proactively seek additional tasks.

+ Strong attention to safety and housekeeping, including maintaining a clean and organized work area.

Work Environment

This position is based in an indoor/outdoor, non-climate-controlled concrete production facility. You work around precast concrete forms, molds, and panels, using hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment throughout your shift. The typical schedule runs Monday through Friday, with shifts generally from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m., and opportunities for voluntary overtime may be available. The environment is industrial and hands-on, requiring comfort with physical work, exposure to varying temperatures, and adherence to all safety guidelines and procedures.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 – $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
