We Are: Accenture’s Life Sciences MedTech practice sits at the intersection of science, technology, and human impact. We partner with the world’s leading MedTech companies to reinvent how they discover, develop, and deliver innovations that improve patient outcomes. From strategy through execution, we help clients navigate regulatory complexity, accelerate product development timelines, and build the AI-enabled operating models that will define the next era of medical technology. Our R&D practice is one of the fastest-growing areas of our business – and we’re looking for the leaders who will own a significant piece of it. You Are+ A proven business builder. You have led an organization – a consulting practice, a business development function, or a commercial team – and you know what it takes to grow revenue, build talent, and set a market strategy from the top.
+ A major account originator. You have a track record of personally sourcing and closing large, complex engagements with senior R&D and innovation leaders at MedTech OEMs. You don’t need a warm intro or institutional support to open a door.
+ An AI leader with substance. You understand how AI and data are reshaping R&D operations and you can set a credible vision for AI-enabled transformation in front of a skeptical board or C-suite.
+ A MedTech authority. You are recognized in the industry – through your network, your thought leadership, or your track record – as someone who understands the product development lifecycle, the regulatory environment, and the strategic pressures facing R&D organizations.
+ A talent multiplier. You build organizations, not just teams. You attract strong people, develop them deliberately, and create the kind of culture where high performers want to stay and grow.
Job Description: This is a business leadership role, not a senior delivery role. We are looking for a Principal Director who has already built and run something meaningful – a practice, a business unit, a market – and is ready to do it again at Accenture scale. You will own a defined segment of our MedTech R&D growth agenda: setting the strategy, building the team, originating and closing major client engagements, and being accountable for the P&L. You have the credibility to walk into a boardroom conversation with a Chief R&D Officer and be seen as a peer. AI fluency is not a nice-to-have – it is central to how you lead and what you sell. The Work (Role Responsibility)+ Responsibility for a defined segment of Accenture’s MedTech R&D practice – including revenue targets, headcount, and margin.
+ Market strategy for your segment: where to play, how to win, which clients to prioritize, and how to differentiate Accenture’s offering against competitors.
+ A major client origination agenda – personally sourcing and closing transformational engagements with C-suite and VP-level R&D leaders across top MedTech OEMs and emerging digital health companies.
+ Design and deployment of AI-enabled solutions that help clients accelerate product development, improve clinical operations, and build data-driven R&D organizations.
+ Executive-level client relationships that position Accenture as the long-term strategic partner of choice for R&D transformation.
+ Thought leadership and market positioning – setting Accenture’s point of view in your segment through publications, keynotes, and industry presence.
+ Practice development – recruiting, developing, and retaining the next generation of Accenture’s MedTech R&D leaders.
Travel – candidate should be willing to travel up to 75% to client locations.
Here’s What You Need:
+ Minimum of 15 years working in or advising the MedTech R&D industry, with deep expertise in the product development and regulatory lifecycle with d eep segment expertise in at least one area: cardiovascular, neuromodulation, surgical robotics, diagnostics, digital health, or adjacent fields.
+ Minimum of 10 years experience in management consulting or with a MedTech firm, with a demonstrated track record of business development, client origination, and practice leadership.
+ Minimum of 10 years of experience owning or leading an organization – a consulting practice, a business unit, or a commercial function – with accountability for people, revenue, and strategy.
+ A Bachelor’s degree (science, engineering, or health-related field preferred); advanced degree a strong plus.
Bonus Points If You Have:+ A proven ability to originate and close major engagements independently – large, complex deals with senior buyers at MedTech OEMs.
+ Hands-on experience leading or selling AI-enabled R&D transformation – not just recommending AI, but designing and implementing it.
+ An established, senior network of C-suite and VP-level R&D, innovation, and commercial leaders at MedTech OEMs who see you as a trusted strategic advisor.
+ Experience building and scaling a consulting practice or business development organization – not just contributing to one.
+ A visible market presence: publications, keynote appearances, board or advisory roles, or a professional reputation that precedes you in the MedTech R&D space.
+ A disciplined approach to pipeline management at scale – portfolio-level thinking about where to invest the team’s time, not just your own.
+ Experience operating at the intersection of R&D, commercial, and technology strategy – able to connect Accenture’s full capability set to a client’s enterprise agenda.
