Job Summary:
The Maintenance Superintendent oversees all maintenance activities, including but not limited to mobile equipment (loaders, dozers, LHD’s, scalers, cutters and blasting equipment and automated packaging), stationary equipment (belt conveyors, crushers, screeners, bucket elevators and screw conveyors), hoists and shafts, storeroom, procurement, planning, and all plant utilities. This includes safety, personnel, preventive and predictive maintenance, resource staffing and maintenance project execution.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Use technical knowledge, equipment documentation, safety procedures, and maintenance schedules to improve and develop preventative and routine maintenance programs.
- Directly supervise maintenance workforce personnel and salaried staff, including mechanics, electricians, laborers, hoist operators and planners/buyers across 3 shifts per day in both the surface and mine operations. This includes responsibility to be on call as needed on off-shifts and weekends.
- Has a safety focused approach to gaining results in all areas of responsibility and administers the company's safety program to ensure a safe work environment including proactive solutions, timely corrective actions of hazards, and proper housekeeping.
- Ensure proper maintenance practices are followed to minimize repeat failures.
- Supervise in a manner that creates a positive labor relations climate. Interprets the contract and management policies to supervisory team.
- Develop a team environment, encompassing staff at all levels and expertise that utilizes individual, site and corporate strengths to meet daily business needs, solve problems, develop and implement long-term goals and objectives.
- Responsible for ensuring accountability standards are maintained within the maintenance department.
- Accountable for identifying and executing cost reduction projects.
- Ensure weekly schedules are adhered to for production equipment to remain reliable.
- Responsible for overall oversight of electrical projects/work and infrastructure.
- Prepares operating cost center budget and constantly monitors expenditures to stay within plan.
- Investigates and resolves problems related to engineering and maintenance.
- Monitors the purchasing of spare parts and inventory of spare parts, as well as setting minimum and maximum quantities.
- Instills a proactive approach to maintenance, being the champion for change and continuous improvement for the maintenance team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
