Purpose Statement
The job of a Classroom Aide is to work under the supervision of the classroom teacher. The assignment of a Classroom Aide is determined by class size and is temporary. The Classroom Aide frees the teacher from routine daily tasks.
This job reports to the School Principal and the supervising teacher.
Essential Functions
- Maintain regular, reliable work attendance to meet the requirements of classroom duties.
- Work constructively and cooperatively with the instructional team and others in the school and district.
- Respond to information requests in a courteous, timely, and helpful manner.
- Access, input, and retrieve information from technology resources.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information.
- Assist students in completing activities/lessons initiated by the teacher.
- Assist the teacher with small-group activities such as flash-card drills, spelling, and center activities.
- Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials for the class.
- Hear requests for help, observe learning difficulties from pupils, and report such matters to the teacher.
- Score the objective test and papers and keep appropriate records for the teacher.
- Escort children on educational trips outside the classroom with a teacher.
- Support the teacher or other professional staff on various activities (lunch, P.E., etc.).
- Prepare bulletin boards and other materials.
- Supervise classroom activity when the teacher is out of the room.
- Supervising various activities (as assigned by the teacher).
Other Functions
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization's services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 50% sitting, 15% walking, and 35% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard-free environment.
