2nd Shift Masker- Aerospace Metal Finishing

at Metal Finishing Company in Wichita, Kansas, United States

Job Description

Masking Technician – Aerospace Metal Finishing
1st, and 2nd Shift Openings

About the Role

As a Masking Technician, you'll play a critical hands-on role in preparing aircraft parts for paint and electroplating — precision work that directly supports our aerospace customers. You'll work with masking tape, plugs, and other protective materials to shield specific part areas before they move into processing, plus handle counting and packing for customer orders. This is detail-driven, quality-focused work in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Career Level: Masker I

This is an entry point into our masking department, where you'll build foundational skills under the guidance of experienced Level 2 and 3 Maskers. You'll learn to:

  • Mask parts accurately using a first-article example as your reference
  • Follow verbal instructions for masking operations
  • Identify and work with a variety of masking materials

What You'll Do

  • Count and verify parts against work orders with speed and accuracy
  • Read and follow work orders, customer purchase orders, masking cards, and blueprints — documenting all completed work
  • Apply masking tape, plugs, and other protective materials to designated part areas to protect against coating/processing
  • Use utility or X-Acto blades, small hand tools, scales, gauges, and solvents to complete each job to spec

What You Bring

  • Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor dexterity
  • Sharp attention to close-up detail
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication)
  • Production, assembly, or processing experience preferred
  • Blueprint-reading experience a plus
  • Prior inspection experience a plus

Work Environment

You'll work in a factory processing setting with some exposure to industrial noise, dust, and solvent fumes. Temperatures shift with the seasons — plan for warmer conditions in summer and cooler in winter.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Stand for 4–6 hours at a stretch
  • Occasionally bend, kneel, stoop, or twist
  • Sustain fine hand manipulation throughout the shift

Schedule

This is a full-time role with regular overtime, typically running 9–10 hour shifts. Most Saturdays are required; Sundays occasionally, depending on workload.

  • 1st: 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
  • 2nd: 2:00 PM–10:30 PM
