Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Control Panel Technician to join the operations team and specialize in custom electrical control panel assembly. In this role, you will assemble, wire, test, and troubleshoot electrical control panels, junction boxes, and wire harnesses used on heavy mobile machinery, ensuring they meet engineering specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities

+ Build electrical control panels, junction boxes, and wiring harnesses according to prints, electrical schematics, and layout drawings.

+ Select, mount, and install components such as switches, push buttons, relays, circuit breakers, terminal blocks, DIN rails, wireways, and grounding points.

+ Perform panel modifications including cutouts, drilling, and tapping to accommodate panel-mounted devices.

+ Perform point-to-point wiring using proper stripping, crimping, ferruling, and termination techniques.

+ Route, bundle, and label wires neatly to meet wiring standards and best practices, maintaining clean and organized wire management.

+ Conduct continuity, voltage, and grounding checks using multimeters to verify proper operation and safety.

+ Troubleshoot electrical control panels and wiring harnesses to identify and correct wiring or component issues.

+ Ensure all assembled panels match Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering designs while maintaining high quality and consistency.

+ Read, interpret, and redline electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to reflect design changes and improvements.

+ Maintain accurate documentation of design changes, test results, and build notes for future reference and continuous improvement.

+ Communicate updates and findings to engineering and collaborate with production teams to improve panel performance and reliability.

+ Adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe electrical work practices at all times.

Essential Skills

+ Minimum of 2+ years of experience in electrical control panel assembly, industrial wiring, or heavy equipment electrical assembly.

+ Strong ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, blueprint layouts, and engineering drawings.

+ Proficiency in using hand tools such as crimpers and wire strippers, as well as small power tools, with a high level of attention to detail.

+ Ability to perform point-to-point wiring, proper stripping, crimping, ferruling, and terminations.

+ Capability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and work comfortably around large industrial machinery.

+ Experience with panel building, control panel wiring, and troubleshooting electrical systems.

+ Familiarity with electronics and pneumatics as they relate to control panel functionality.

+ Understanding of safe electrical work practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and use of PPE.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Technical certificate or associate degree in electrical technology, mechatronics, or a related field is preferred.

+ Certifications such as IPC/WHMA-A-620 and J-STD-001 are highly preferred.

+ Experience as a Control Panel Technician, Control Panel Assembler, Panel Builder, or Wiring Technician.

+ Ability to interpret and work from detailed schematics and wiring diagrams.

+ Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical control panels and wiring harnesses.

+ Comfort working in a manufacturing and assembly environment alongside an operations team.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing shop environment as part of an operations team of around 10 people focused on assembly and warehousing. You will work in a hands-on setting around large industrial machinery, electrical panels, and related equipment. The position is dedicated to control panels and will help jumpstart a specialized department, working closely with operations leadership and production staff. The standard shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, providing consistent daytime hours in a structured, team-oriented environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Overland Park, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 – $33.00/hr.
