HVAC Technician
Pay Rate – $28/hr. Job Description
This role performs advanced journey-level work in the installation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of pneumatic, electric, electronic, and direct digital control (DDC) heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) control systems. You ensure that all HVAC control systems operate efficiently, safely, and in accordance with design specifications and accepted trade standards.
Responsibilities
+ Install, repair, and replace pneumatic, electric, electronic, and DDC HVAC control systems in accordance with design drawings and specifications.
+ Perform preventative maintenance procedures on HVAC pneumatic, electric, electronic, and DDC control systems to ensure reliable operation.
+ Diagnose control system issues and overhaul building pneumatic, electric, electronic, and DDC control systems individually or as part of a team.
+ Clean, maintain, safely operate, and properly store all tools, equipment, and related materials used in HVAC control system work.
+ Locate, identify, and obtain components and parts required for building pneumatic, electric, electronic, and DDC control systems.
+ Assist with training Building Controls Systems Technicians on proper procedures for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting HVAC control systems.
+ Perform or assist in the preparation of cost estimates, material orders, reports, and the maintenance of accurate records related to HVAC projects and maintenance activities.
+ Observe and enforce all safety requirements and procedures related to HVAC equipment operation, tools, and work practices.
+ Troubleshoot and maintain fire tube boiler systems, chillers, cooling towers, associated pumps, and air handling equipment with variable air boxes in a large institutional setting.
+ Perform other related duties as assigned to support the reliable and efficient operation of HVAC systems.
Essential Skills
+ At least 5 years of commercial HVAC experience.
+ Hands-on experience installing, repairing, maintaining, and replacing pneumatic, electric, electronic, and DDC HVAC control systems.
+ Experience maintaining fire tube boiler systems, chillers, cooling towers, associated pumps, and air handling equipment with variable air boxes in a large institutional environment.
+ Strong troubleshooting skills for HVAC systems, including control systems and mechanical components.
+ Ability to read and interpret design drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for HVAC control systems.
+ Knowledge of and adherence to safety requirements related to HVAC equipment operation and maintenance.
+ Experience performing preventative maintenance on HVAC systems and documenting work performed.
+ Capability to prepare basic cost estimates, material orders, reports, and maintenance records.
+ EPA-related knowledge and experience working with regulated refrigerants and HVAC systems.
+ Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a technical maintenance environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience working with Honeywell HVAC control systems or similar building automation and control platforms.
+ Familiarity with fire tube boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and associated pumping and air handling equipment in institutional or large commercial facilities.
+ Background as a maintenance technician with exposure to complex building systems.
+ Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to safely use and maintain a variety of tools and diagnostic equipment.
+ Good communication skills to assist with training other technicians and collaborating with team members.
+ Attention to detail and strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate records and documentation.
+ Comfort working with both pneumatic and electronic control technologies, including direct digital controls (DDC).

Work Environment
This position follows a regular daytime schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., providing a stable and predictable workweek. You work primarily in a large institutional setting that relies on complex HVAC infrastructure, including fire tube boiler systems, chillers, cooling towers, associated pumps, and air handling equipment with variable air boxes. The role involves frequent interaction with pneumatic, electric, electronic, and DDC HVAC control systems, with a strong emphasis on working with Honeywell controls or similar building automation systems. You use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment, and you are expected to clean, maintain, and store all tools properly. The environment prioritizes safety and adherence to established procedures, ensuring that all work meets trade standards and supports reliable building operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 – $30.00/hr.
