Braider Operator - 3rd Shift

Job Description

Position Summary

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

To set up and support the braider operation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Set up braider as per standard instructions to include bobbin changes, setting proper tensions on braider decks, proper gears, proper air settings, and perform braider preventative maintenance as required.

Remove finished product to proper staging area.

Assist braider operators as operational needs require.

Be able to diagnose and troubleshoot minor problems to prevent serious mechanical failures.

Operate braiders on a relief basis as needed.

Prepare and complete associated paperwork.

Maintain work area in a clean and orderly fashion.

Perform other tasks as assigned by the shift supervisor.

Calculate braider gearing.

Ability to work overtime as required, including extended shifts & weekends, to meet business needs.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment. Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.

Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.

Maintain production schedules.

Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.

Other duties may be assigned at a later time.
Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education required:  


High School diploma or GED
Experience:  


Production work preferred but not required
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:  


Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills 

 

Basic knowledge and use of hand tools 

 

Sound decision making skills 

 

Good math, reading, writing skills 

 

Demonstrated mechanical aptitude 

 

Strong trouble shooting skills 

 

Be able to exercise continuous mental, visual, and audio attention 

 

Ability to work well in a team environment
Skills/Competencies:  


1. Basic computer skills 


2. Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action. 


3. Vision: Near acuity and accommodation for reading information to perform job tasks. 


4. Requires constant alertness to surroundings and product quality with attention to detail.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:

Report directly to Value Stream Team Leader

Work closely with Maintenance to resolve issues with the equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee may be subject to:

High noise levels from operating machines and equipment.

Physical hazards from operating machines and moving reels.

Work in areas where safety equipment will be required (steel toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection)

Standing is required for extended periods of time. Walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting is performed on a regular basis

Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions

Ability to work overtime, including short-notice overtime and weekend coverage to meet business needs.
