Job Description
Responsibilities include a significant amount of the following duties, which are typical but not all-inclusive:
- Sweeping and mopping floors (routine and emergency)
- Clean and sanitize food contact and nonfood contact surfaces
- Washing, cleaning, peeling, slicing, or otherwise preparing fruits and vegetables for salads, desserts, and general cooking
- Remove garbage and trash to disposal areas
- Clean refrigeration units
- Procuring subsistence items from the storeroom or refrigerator as requested
- Serving food to patrons
- Tasks requiring prolonged standing and/or walking
- Prepare menu items in small or large quantities in accordance with the production schedule and Army recipe cards
- Prepare in small or large quantities, by various cooking methods (baking, roasting, deep fat frying, grilling, etc), meats, poultry, and fish
- Season and cook various cuts of meat, poultry, and fish
- Broil, steam, or fry vegetables
- Make gravies, soups, sauces, rolls, meat pies, fricassees, casseroles, and stews
- Lifting and/or carrying up to fifty (50) lbs without assistance
- Must be able to push seventy (70) pounds on wheels
- Perform other additional duties as required by supervisor/management
Other requirements may come up that cooks/cook helpers may have to accomplish. As long as the task does not cause bodily harm or a flagrant violation of safety guidelines, the cook or cook helper will complete the task.
