Job Title: CNC Machinist / CNC Lathe and Mill Operator
Job Description
This role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC lathes and CNC mills in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment. You will work from engineering documentation, ensure parts meet quality standards through inspection, and perform routine maintenance and adjustments on CNC equipment. Depending on experience level, you may also support process development, CNC programming, and first article validation.
Responsibilities
+ Set up, operate, and maintain CNC lathes and CNC mills in accordance with established procedures and process instructions.
+ Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, bills of material (BOM), and bills of operations (BOO) to produce accurate parts.
+ Interpret and identify the correct bill of material for each job and ensure all required components and materials are available.
+ Adhere to all guidelines, procedures, and work instructions to ensure consistent quality and safety.
+ Perform in-process and final inspection of workpieces using gauges and other measuring equipment to verify dimensions and tolerances.
+ Conduct routine maintenance on machine tools, including cleaning, lubrication, and basic troubleshooting.
+ Use manual equipment, such as drill presses and other conventional machines, to perform necessary operations that support CNC machining.
+ Apply tooling knowledge to select, install, and maintain cutting tools, inserts, and work-holding devices.
+ Identify and diagnose issues related to tooling, machine function, and raw materials, and take appropriate corrective actions.
+ Set up machine tools from process instructions, including loading programs, installing fixtures, and adjusting offsets.
+ Inspect and validate first-piece parts to confirm process accuracy before running production quantities.
+ Adjust or modify CNC programming as needed to correct dimensional issues or improve process performance, within defined parameters.
+ Contribute to the development and implementation of CNC machining processes, including CNC programming, process tooling selection, work holding design, process documentation, and first article validation (for higher-level machinists).
+ Operate and demonstrate full competency on lathe, mill, and multi-axis CNC machines as experience level increases.
+ Support and understand the integration of automation with machining processes, where applicable.
+ Complete all other machining and related responsibilities as assigned by leadership to support production goals.
Essential Skills
+ Minimum of 1+ years of CNC machining experience on CNC mills and/or CNC lathes.
+ Basic understanding of CNC machine language and codes sufficient to operate and make minor adjustments to programs.
+ Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
+ Ability to interpret and identify the correct bill of material (BOM) and follow the bill of operations (BOO).
+ Proficiency in performing inspection of workpieces using gauges and other measuring equipment.
+ Capability to perform routine maintenance on machine tools, including basic troubleshooting and upkeep.
+ Ability to perform necessary duties using manual equipment such as drill presses and other conventional machines.
+ Tooling knowledge and maintenance skills, including selection, setup, and care of cutting tools and fixtures.
+ Knowledge of various types of raw materials used in machining and how they affect machining processes.
+ Ability to identify problems with tooling, machine function, and raw materials and take corrective action.
+ Competence in setting up machine tools from process instructions, including loading programs and setting offsets.
+ Capability to inspect and validate first-piece parts to ensure process accuracy before production.
+ Ability to adjust or modify CNC programming as needed within defined parameters.
+ Familiarity with the principles and techniques associated with CNC machining processes.
+ Strong attention to detail, adherence to procedures, and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with CNC programming, including creating and editing programs for lathes, mills, and multi-axis machines.
+ Experience developing and implementing CNC machining processes, including process tooling, work holding, process documentation, and first article validation.
+ Full competency operating lathe, mill, and multi-axis CNC machines for complex parts and setups.
+ Understanding of automation and its application in conjunction with machining processes.
+ Experience using CAD/CAM or related software such as SolidWorks for interpreting models or supporting programming.
+ Hands-on experience with drill presses and other manual machine tools.
+ Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills in a production environment.

Work Environment
You will work in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment within a dedicated machining department. The facility operates CNC lathes, CNC mills, and related machining and inspection equipment, as well as manual machines such as drill presses. Shifts are structured as a four-day workweek: first shift runs from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and second shift runs from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and consistent processes, providing a stable and professional setting for precision machining work.

The pay range for this position is $56160.00 – $66560.00/yr.
