Job Title: CNC Machinist / CNC Router Operator (3rd Shift)

Job Description

This role focuses on the precise and timely production of metallic machined parts using CNC mills and CNC routers. You will set up, operate, program, and troubleshoot CNC equipment to cut aviation- and marine-grade metals to order specifications while ensuring error-free processing, accurate documentation, and adherence to quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities

+ Operate, set up, load, and unload CNC routers and CNC mills on 3-axis machines using Fanuc and Haas controls.

+ Carry out the complete production process from start to finish, including receiving work orders from the Production Planner, allocating and pulling material, loading material on the machine, and running jobs to specification.

+ Inspect products during and after machining to verify that all parts meet customer and shop traveler specifications.

+ Clean, label, and stage finished parts in an organized manner for downstream processes or shipment.

+ Offload scrap or stock, return unused materials as needed, and ensure proper handling and storage of metals.

+ Process jobs through the system by completing all required paperwork and computer data entries associated with the CNC production process.

+ Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area throughout the shift to support efficient production and safety compliance.

+ Regularly clean and maintain CNC routers, CNC mills, and related equipment to ensure reliable and safe operation.

+ Program and troubleshoot CNC router functions and adjust machine parameters as needed to maintain quality and throughput.

+ Use measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions and tolerances of machined parts.

+ Interpret blueprints and shop travelers to determine machining requirements, setups, and sequence of operations.

+ Apply good organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet production deadlines.

+ Work independently on assigned tasks while accepting direction and feedback from supervisors and leads.

+ Cross-train other team members as assigned to support a flexible and collaborative production environment.

+ Practice a willingness to learn production and distribution methodologies and continuously improve skills and processes.

+ Adhere to all safety rules, regulations, quality standards, and procedures, including safe operation of hazardous machinery and tools.

+ Maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, internal stakeholders, customers, and suppliers while operating with high integrity.

+ Monitor equipment and surroundings with frequent visual and auditory attention to identify needs for repair, service, or adjustment to machines and facilities.

Essential Skills

+ High school diploma or equivalent.

+ Valid driver’s license.

+ At least two years of machine operating experience.

+ Intermediate or higher CNC operation experience.

+ Minimum 6+ months of hands-on experience operating 3-axis CNC mills and CNC routers.

+ Minimum 6+ months of experience operating CNC mills or routers using Fanuc controls.

+ Experience working in manufacturing environments, including running machines and performing setups at the machine.

+ Ability to operate CNC equipment with Haas and Fanuc controls on 3-axis machines.

+ Good reading skills with the ability to interpret instructions, job travelers, and basic technical documents.

+ Strong math skills to support measurements, tolerances, and basic shop calculations.

+ Good organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.

+ Effective written and oral communication skills.

+ Basic computer skills to complete required data entry and production documentation.

+ Ability to measure using different tools such as micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments.

+ Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while also following direction when required.

+ Strong work ethic and self-motivation to maintain productivity and quality standards.

+ Commitment to operating with high integrity and maintaining positive working relationships.

+ Physical ability to stand more than three-quarters of the time and use hands and fingers to handle or feel over three-quarters of the time.

+ Ability to reach with hands and arms over three-quarters of the time and perform kneeling, crawling, twisting, and balancing over half of the time.

+ Ability to bend and climb over half of the time and to talk or hear over three-quarters of the time.

+ Capability to lift up to 50 pounds more than three-quarters of the time and up to 75 pounds less than one-quarter of the time.

+ Capability to push or pull between 25-50 pounds more than three-quarters of the time.

+ Close vision capability for detailed work at 36 inches or less.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Coursework in metalworking, blueprint reading, drafting, and math.

+ Two years of machine operating experience (as a preferred level of experience).

+ One or more years of CNC router operation experience.

+ Experience with Mastercam programming.

+ Experience with 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC equipment.

+ Familiarity with additional CNC platforms such as Hyundai and Mazak machines.

+ Experience using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measurement tools in a production environment.

+ Troubleshooting experience on CNC mills, routers, and related equipment.

+ Experience working with grinding processes or related finishing operations.

+ Comfort working with aviation-grade metals (e.g., 2000 and 7000 series) and marine-grade metals (e.g., 5000 series).

Work Environment

The role is based in a metal-cutting production facility focused on aviation-grade (2000 and 7000 series) and marine-grade (5000 series) metals. The environment is a non-climate-controlled yet comfortable warehouse setting. In colder months, heaters provide warmth, and during warmer seasons, large fans and open doors help circulate air. You will work around hazardous machinery, sharp tools, moving objects, noise, heat, and humidity, and you will need to maintain frequent visual and auditory attention to equipment and surroundings. The facility operates CNC mills, CNC routers, and related equipment using Fanuc and Haas controls, with exposure to additional platforms such as Hyundai and Mazak, and the use of precision measuring tools like micrometers and calipers. This position is on 3rd shift, with core hours from Sunday through Thursday, 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., and Friday designated as an overtime day; openness to overtime on Fridays is required. The local operation is relatively small, with around a few dozen employees, creating a close-knit, collaborative atmosphere. The dress code consists of jeans, a T-shirt, and steel-toed shoes, and employees receive a 30-minute lunch break.
