Job Description

Butler Community College is seeking a dedicated and community‑minded individual to join our team as a Public Safety Security Officer. In this role, you will help maintain a safe and secure environment for students, employees, and visitors across all Butler campuses.
Public Safety Security Officers are responsible for conducting walking and/or driving patrols of Butler campuses to ensure the safety and security of the college community. This position provides facility and personnel protection, assists campus members as needed, and safeguards college property.

This position will work evenings and overnight hours

A. A minimum age requirement is twenty-one (21) years of age. This provides an authority of legal age to enforce alcoholic beverage use regulations. 

B. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

C. Possess good communication skills.

D. Valid Kansas driver’s license.

E. Knowledge of radio operation, cell phone, and some mechanical, electrical and plumbing.

F. Possess, or ability to learn, basic computer skills to send and receive e-mail and prepare documents using word processing and spreadsheets.

G. Ability to perform a continuous 8-hour walking shift of the campus including climbing steps and ramps.

H. Neat in appearance.

I. Willingness to work irregular hours and extra hours as needed.

J. Be able to make decisions in emergencies.

K. Assist Supervisor in developing and managing the departmental budget.

L. Show responsibility and trustworthiness for access to various secured areas.

M. Must meet people easily and display courtesy to them, maintaining a good relationship with college and community.    

A minimum of 1 year experience as a security officer is required.
