Job Description
SummaryThe Tool Designer I develops concepts and designs layouts for jigs, fixtures, molds, dies, and other tooling required for product manufacturing. Performs project management activities and offers innovative solutions to significant Computer Aided Design (CAD), manufacturing, and process problems. Serves as direct customer interface in the provision or designs, concepts, cost/delivery estimates, and other services required outside the KCNSC.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conceptualizes and designs a broad range of complex product manufacturing tools, gages, and special machines.
Recommends changes in tool designs to facilitate processing and production of the product.
Reviews gage and tool designs for compatibility with product design.
Uses Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Engineering tools to perform job requirements. Also, recommends enhancements to existing CAD/CAE tools to improve productivity.
Represents organization as direct interface with Design Agency, NWC production sites, customers, and suppliers to assist in tool design related issues and new business solicitation.
You Must Have
High School Diploma
Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
United States Citizenship
Ability to work on-site as directed by management and as determined by the needs of the business
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)
We Value
Experience in design drafting or equivalent experience using CAD computer systems.
Formal training in tool design equivalent to Industrial Technology curriculum, completion of Tool and Die Apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience.
Demonstrates knowledge of some manufacturing processes and fabrication techniques.
