Position Summary & ResponsibilitiesPosition Summary:  

ESSENTIAL ABILITIES FOR ALL ADJUTANT GENERAL JOB CLASSIFICATIONS

HVAC/PLUMBING: Inspects, installs, operates, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs all types of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including but not limited to: Chilled Water systems, Geo-Thermal Heat Pump systems, Cooling Towers, Direct Expansion Cooling systems, Energy Recovery Wheels, Air Handling Units, VFD Motor Controls, Boiler systems, Circulation Pumps, Low Voltage Control Wiring, Control Valves and Dampers, Refrigeration/Air Conditioning Refrigerant Install and Recovery, Ventilation Filters, Air Compressing and Ventilating systems, and Steam-Gas-Electric Unit Heaters. Aligns, adjusts and services components and equipment such as compressors, electric motors, centrifugal refrigerating machines. Shapes, sizes and connects piping, tubing and components using special benders, flaring and coupling tools. Tests and inspectors installed heating and cooling equipment for proper operation and compliance with technical orders (TOs), manufacturers operation and maintenance manuals and local procedures, including compliance with local/national safety and environmental regulations. Service components such as electric motors, compressors, valves and moving mechanical parts with appropriate lubrications. Removes, disassembles, cleans, repairs, re-assembles and reinstalls component and component parts, such as boiler heat tubes, pumps, motors, controllers, compressors, burners, condensers, ruptured disks, valves, backflow preventors, safety and automatic valves, pistons and bearings. Checks installed safety devices for proper operation. Schedules tasks with customers and turns material requests into Production Work Control, Reads, interprets and strictly adheres to applicable Air Force Manuals and Instructions, Regulation and Technical Orders; AFI 91-203 Standards; Environmental Protection Agency Directives, NFPA; blueprints, drawings, plans and specifications and building codes.

 

INSPECTIONS/PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE: Performs preventative maintenance (PM) tasks as assigned by the Civil Engineer Production/Work Control section. This involves routine inspection and testing of Chilled Water systems, Geo-Thermal Heat Pump systems, Cooling Towers, Direct Expansion Cooling systems, Energy Recovery Wheels, Air Handling Units, Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, Boiler systems, Circulation Pumps, Air Movement/Ventilation Filters, Exhaust Fans and Ventilating systems, and Steam-Gas-Electric Unit Heaters. It also involves other specific tasks in support of the electrical, mechanical, and custodial staff, such as checking/replacing air handler/chiller/heat pump/VAV filters on a recurring basis, cleaning chiller cooling fins, periodic inspections of exhaust fans working in conjunction with electricians in periodic maintenance of outdoor electrical distribution equipment and working with custodians in regard to sewer drain P-trap periodic maintenance. Work requires successful interpretation of equipment manuals, basic working knowledge of facility systems, and knowledge of what basic indicators are important to public safety. Incumbents will assist Production/Work Control in the development of PM Work Order MASes in IEMS to ensure components and equipment are properly maintained. Performs preventative maintenance actions in accordance with applicable technical data and local procedures. Lubricates and packs valves, bearings, and pumps; replaces gaskets and seals, corrects pumping equipment misalignment, cleans or replaces strainers and filters, and services water/oil separators 

 

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Responds to all emergencies pertaining to HVAC or underground utilities. Operates backhoes, front loaders, forklifts, bobcats, dump trucks, and various other pieces of equipment in the maintenance and repair of underground utilities and snow removal operations. Performs housekeeping functions on the job site and in the shop area. Maintains and prepares shop equipment for use. Inspects, cleans, adjusts, lubricates and tightens loose connections on applicable tools and equipment. 

 

ELECTRICAL: Perform minor electrical repairs, understands basic electrical processes and electrical safety, must be able to safely work on 120V to 480V circuits and equipment

 

 

 

 

Qualifications


  • Education

  •  High school graduates with courses in general science, mathematics and shop mechanics are preferred
Licensing & Certification:  
  • Must have and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license. Valid Journeymans License Preferred but not mandatory
Minimum Qualifications:  
  • 24 Months verifiable HVAC trade school attendees or graduates or 24 months verifiable field experience in the commercial/industrial HVAC trade.
Special knowledge skills, and abilities preferred:  
  • Some ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, sketches and drawings; Knowledgeable in the use and operation of common hand tools; Minimal experience with machines, computer/laptop, and equipment commonly used in HVAC and plumbing installation and maintenance preferred
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:  

  • Must be able to work at heights up to 70’. Must be able to pass Grade 1 Color Vision Test as defined in AF Manual 160-17. 

  • Must be able to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. May be required to return to work or work additional hours on occasion. FLSA as defined by K.A.R. 1-5-25 applies.  Must be able to successfully pass a KBI background check and be available to be on call.
