Job Description Summary:
The Medical Physics Division in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow in Medical Physics to develop novel computational and experimental methods for image guided radiation therapy. The Fellow will have access to numerous state-of-the-art medical linear accelerators, CT scanners, and a FLASH-capable ProteusONE proton therapy system in the department.
Postdoctoral scholars at the University of Kansas Medical Center are individuals who have received their terminal degree and who have opted to pursue further training in a postdoctoral appointment. Postdoctoral scholarship is a time-limited appointment, the primary purpose of which is to provide research and/or scholarly training for an academic or research career. A postdoctoral scholar is expected to participate in a full-time regimen of advanced training and research, train under the supervision of a faculty research mentor who will provide the opportunity for both collaborative and independent research, participate in relevant academic activities related to the preparation of a career in research or academia, participate in the University's Individual Development Plan policy for postdoctoral scholars, as well as promote publication of findings and preparation of research grants as determined by a mutual agreement between the postdoctoral scholar and the mentor. Candidates will have a PhD, MD, or equivalent terminal degree and should have communication skills. Candidates must be able to independently plan, multi-task and complete projects. Ideally, the Fellow will be expected to design and execute experiments, analyze data, write and prepare independent grant applications and manuscripts for scientific publications, and supervise graduate students.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Research & Lab Responsibilities
  • Conduct research under PI mentorship.
  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments or studies.
  • Collect, manage, and interpret datasets.
  • Contribute to protocols, manuals, and regulatory documents.
  • Collaborate with the PI, faculty, and research teams on project direction and results interpretation.


Scholarly Output & Grant Writing
  • Prepare manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations for peer-reviewed journals and scientific meetings.
  • Assist in preparing research proposals or other funding submissions.


Professional Development & Mentorship
  • Participate in seminars, workshops, and professional development activities.
  • Develop and follow an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
  • Mentor graduate or undergraduate students, interns, or trainees.
  • Present research findings at meetings.


Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date research records.
  • Adhere to IRB, IACUC, data security, and other compliance policies.
  • Attend required departmental and University orientation and training sessions.

Comprehensive Benefits Package:

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
