Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Interpret specifications, plans, and special provisions to project personnel. Conduct preconstruction conferences with contractors, utilities, county and city engineers to discuss potential problem areas. Coordinate construction schedules of all concerned for the timely completion of highway projects.
- Supervise other engineering associates and engineering technicians in the administration of contract provisions for highway construction work. Resolve conflicts between contractors and project personnel as to the intent of the plans and specifications.
- Perform routine office duties consisting of the review and approval of numerous project reports, pay estimates, documentation procedures, personnel payrolls and reports, equipment, etc.
- Meet and confer with utility owners, general public and other agencies to coordinate their interests in DOT projects, such as Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment, monitor the air pollution of hot mix plants and the contamination of streams from run off.
- Provide engineering supervision of field surveys, project design, plan preparation and other duties as assigned.
- Direct the training of personnel under his/her supervision and encourages self-development and achievement of these employees.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- 4 years of experience in Engineering.
- Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate or an Engineer in Training (EIT).
- Valid Drivers License at time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practices; state and federal laws and criteria related to engineering standards; reference materials in the field of engineering.
- Ability to prepare, interpret, and utilize engineering plans, maps, specifications and reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written; maintain effective working relationships; and supervise a staff of employees.

- This position is subject to pre-employment physical capacity testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
