Position Summary & Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL ABILITIES FOR ALL TAG JOB CLASSIFICATIONS

WORK PERFORMED and MANAGEDThe following tasks are to be performed by the Incumbent as well as overseeing others tasked with custodial duties. Sweeps/vacuums/mops/scrubs ceramic and vinyl tiles, wood, carpeted floors, stairways, landings, main traffic ways and vestibules. Sweeping will be accomplished by bristle floor broom and treated or untreated sweeping mop. The use of powered equipment (vacuums, tile and grout scrubbers, carpet cleaners) will be frequent and as needed. Thoroughly and completely sweeps areas prior to damp mopping. Using clean water and a cotton linen yarn mop removes dirt and stains where needed. Often a small amount of detergent or stain remover is needed to remove stubborn areas. Cleans mops and equipment after each use and prior to storage. Stripping of floors will be done as needed and new wax applied. Incumbents will make this determination or be directed by local leadership. Wax build-up on base cove or near edges will be stripped on an as needed basis. Spray buffing or the high-speed buffer system will be done as needed or as needed. Incumbents will make this determination or be directed by local leadership. Uses either manual or machine method of scrubbing to thoroughly clean and sanitize toilets, urinals, bathroom floors, shower stalls, and locker rooms. The removal of all rubber heel marks, streaks, soiling and embedded dirt from all floors will be accomplished. Clean walls, wainscots, doors, door frames, and trim when necessary to remove small spot areas of dirt, grease stains or friction marks. Performs spot cleaning operation on floors, carpets and mats as required.

 

Clean sinks and drinking fountains with detergent solution and wipe counter tops and hardware clean daily. Thoroughly clean water closets and urinals with all-purpose synthetic cleaning solution and mop or brush to remove all deposits, corrosion and encrustation. Wash seat (top and bottom) with detergent solution and wipe outside of bowl, seat, tank and bowls, floors, partitions and similar fixtures daily. Replenish deodorants and disinfectants in urinals as necessary. Clean seats/benches, floors and walls of showers and shower rooms as required. Remove dust from all lockers as needed. Check and refill paper towel, toilet tissue, soap dispensers, and hand sanitizers as needed. Ensure adequate supply of materials is available and do not permit dispensers to become empty. Cleans dispensers with a mild soap detergent and follow by a damp wiping with a clean cloth. Inform Production Control of any clogged or slow drains and toilets. Ensure floor drain P traps have water in them. Report discrepancies beyond capabilities of incumbent to Production Control for corrective action.

 

In all Leadership/Command areas, Incumbent will oversee and participate in the cleaning and removal of dust from wall hangings, thermostats, over windows, doors, and pendant type area lighting, air supply and return grilles, dust file cabinets, tables, and desks, office partitions, and similar equipment. Remove dust from both sides of venetian blinds, where applicable. Remove all trash and paper from building bathrooms, break rooms, Leadership/Command areas and deposit in an approved dumpster. Maintain waste receptacles in a clean and sanitary condition, free of deposits, dirt, streaks and odors by washing or use of disposable trash can liners. 

 

Cleans glass, including mirrors, glass cabinets, glass entrances/exits and partitions using a mild glass cleaning solution. Glass cleaner must be used in strict accordance with cleaner manufacturer’s instructions.

 

Uses personal protective equipment (PPE). Comply with safety and health directives. Reviews all MSDSs for all hazardous solutions used. Reports work-related personal injuries and property damage to Supervisor and/or Production Control. 

 

CONTACTS: Meets with Civil Engineering customers on a routine basis when performing cleaning duties. Incumbent is expected to appropriately always represent CE to all customers. This requires the projection of a professional and cooperative image, the ability to develop effective working relationships with a variety of people including co-workers. The incumbent must present a positive image to the customer that excludes negative remarks about fellow employees and Wing personnel, etc. Incumbents will attend CES Staff Meetings and manage leave of subordinates along with reporting any relevant personnel/contractor information to State Supervisor.

 

RELATED: Performs other related duties as assigned to assist Civil Engineering work accomplishment. The incumbent is part of a Civil Engineer facility maintenance team. Employees may be required to assist in other areas of facility maintenance within their skill range on a very limited basis. No special, highly refined skills are required in these areas, however a proactive, flexible attitude toward working outside the incumbent’s specialty area to achieve team goals is essential. Related duties may include (but are not limited to) limited grounds maintenance – using hand mowers and weed eaters, snow removal using snow blowers or snow shovels, placement of chemicals on ice surfaces, and making simple adjustments or repairs to custodial equipment.

 

TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES: Maintains accountability and usability of all assigned custodial equipment, shop stock, and tools to ensure that equipment/tools/supplies are in usable condition and are available when needed. This is done by assessing the condition of the equipment, quantity of supplies, and determining stock levels of frequently used items.

 

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: The incumbent belongs to a Civil Engineer facility team with team goals. The incumbent will proactively and continuously find ways to improve custodial work efficiencies and present them in team meetings or other appropriate venue by offering suggestions or relating obvious inefficiencies that may or may not have obvious solutions. It is the philosophy of Base Civil Engineering that individual employees are empowered to effect improvements in work/team efficiency. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications


  • Education

  • HS Diploma or GED
Licensing & Certification:  
  • Valid Kansas Driver’s License and must be maintained as a condition as of continuing employment.
Minimum Qualifications:  
  • Two years’ experience in building custodial work and minor maintenance/repair 
Special Qualifications:  
  • Physical ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 80 pounds is required. May be required to return to work or work additional hours on occasion, overtime (FLSA as defined by K.A.R. 1-5-25 applies). 
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:  
  • Must be able to acquire a line badge through a favorable report from National Agency Check and pass a KBI background investigation report.
