In Kansas City, Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) manages and operates the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Kansas City National Security Campus. SummaryThis position is responsible for a variety of intermediate to complex level technical activities. Uses advanced knowledge of engineering concepts, processes, and tools to complete and ensure compliance of various project subtasks. Gathers data, conducts tests and experiments, sets up and operates equipment, builds prototype units and testing equipment. Maintains and calibrates standards and equipment and devises new testing methods.
Duties and Responsibilities
Sets up test equipment, monitors and measures instruments. Performs testing on breadboard circuitry, prototype units, production units, and electronic circuitry.
Support consists of both technical bench and field set-up, deployment, retrieval and repairs, with travel to remote site areas as required.
Builds prototype units for testing and experimentation and makes samples for further analysis.
Conducts tests and experiments with new materials, equipment, and processes to develop data for specification call-out or to determine suitability of a material for particular applications.
Gathers and evaluates data for validity, accuracy and completeness.
Locates and corrects malfunctions in product and testing equipment.
Performs post-mortem analyses to determine exact reasons for failure.
Performs chemical processing and mechanical evaluations as applicable.
Makes sketches and marks up drawings as needed to show changes as they occur.
Maintains appropriate primary and secondary metrology standards, test laboratory equipment or control consoles and associated monitoring, measuring, and recording instruments.
Drafts calibrating and operating procedures based upon comprehensive knowledge of product and testing equipment.
Calibrates equipment, instruments, electrical/electronic standards and standards of mass, force, dimension, and other phenomena during or after maintenance, and on regularly scheduled calibration dates.
Records laboratory notes and other details, as specified by engineering personnel.
Supports activities identified by Management/Engineering to maintain equipment in a reliable efficient manner.
Works with engineering to establish test techniques for new product during development and to resolve product or equipment problems, and may install, characterize and/or design equipment.
Improves and refines existing fixtures, devices, methods, process steps or procedures, implementing changes as necessary.
May provide technical direction and training to other technologists and hourly employees to include task or project lead duties.
You Must Have
High School Diploma
5 or more years of experience
Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
United States Citizenship
Ability to work on-site as directed by management and as determined by the needs of the business
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)
We Value
4 years of relevant experience, or 2 or more years in a related technical role plus 2-year technical degree or 4-year technical degree
Experience in non-destructive test methods (EG. CT, ultrasonic testing, eddy current testing, and X-ray).
