Job Description

Job Title: Field Engineer – Air Traffic Surveillance Radar

Job Description

Join a dynamic engineering team leading the deployment and replacement of civil air traffic surveillance radars-both approach and en-route-across the United States. As a Field Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering advanced radar solutions that enhance the safety and efficiency of air traffic nationwide. You will combine hands-on field work with systems engineering, technical coordination, and customer-facing support to ensure successful delivery and integration of complex radar systems at multiple sites.

Responsibilities

+ Lead the definition of system architecture for large-scale radar deployments, ensuring solutions meet functional, technical, and operational requirements.

+ Analyze and interpret functional and technical requirements for civil air traffic surveillance radars and related systems.

+ Design and document technical interfaces, including integration of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and third-party systems, to ensure seamless interoperability.

+ Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, such as Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and System Test Plans (TPs), in collaboration with the Product Department.

+ Coordinate, conduct, and drive internal and formal technical reviews, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

+ Oversee and approve partial deliverables throughout all project phases, working closely with Field Engineering and other technical teams.

+ Support and ensure successful delivery, installation, and integration of radar systems at multiple sites distributed across the United States.

+ Provide technical support and product support to internal teams and external customers, addressing issues related to radar, air surveillance, and air traffic equipment.

+ Collaborate closely with the System Engineering organization and other multidisciplinary teams, including electronics, aerospace, and FAA-related stakeholders, to guarantee project success.

+ Maintain clear, timely, and effective communication with all stakeholders, proactively identifying and resolving technical and operational issues.

+ Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, documentation, and field practices based on lessons learned and customer feedback.

+ Deliver high-quality customer service in the field, representing the organization professionally during site visits, reviews, and technical discussions.

+ Manage your work effectively in a project-driven environment, balancing travel, on-site activities, documentation, and remote collaboration.

+ Support technical management and project management activities related to radar and air traffic surveillance deployments as needed.

Essential Skills

+ 3-5+ years of experience in field engineering, systems engineering, technical management, or project management within radar, air traffic surveillance, aerospace defense, or similar sectors.

+ 2-3+ years of field engineering or systems engineering experience with complex electronic or radar systems.

+ Hands-on experience or strong exposure to radar systems, air surveillance, or air traffic equipment.

+ Solid understanding of electronics and electrical systems as they relate to radar and air traffic surveillance technologies.

+ Proven experience providing technical support and product support in a customer-facing or field-based role.

+ Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, sites, and priorities in a dynamic project environment.

+ Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues in the field and in coordination with engineering teams.

+ Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and geographically distributed teams, collaborating with engineering, product, and operations stakeholders.

+ Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical documentation, stakeholder communication, and review participation.

+ Willingness and ability to travel up to approximately 30-50% of the time, generally closer to 30%, to support deployments and on-site activities across the United States.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical or engineering discipline is preferred.

+ Experience working with civil air traffic surveillance systems, including approach and en-route radars, is highly desirable.

+ Experience or exposure to FAA environments, aerospace defense, or air traffic management systems.

+ Familiarity with COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) components and third-party system integration.

+ Experience preparing and reviewing Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and System Test Plans (TPs).

+ Ability to participate in and lead technical reviews, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulations.

+ Demonstrated commitment to high-quality customer service in technical and field settings.

+ Comfort working in a growing, fast-evolving organization where processes and facilities are expanding.

Work Environment

You will work in a hybrid environment that combines office-based engineering activities with frequent visits to radar and air traffic surveillance sites across the United States. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering and product teams using modern electronic and radar technologies, COTS equipment, and integrated air traffic systems. You will operate in a project-driven setting with periods of travel, site integration, and on-site technical support, balanced with remote and office-based documentation and coordination. The organization is in a strong growth phase, expanding operations in the US and moving into a brand-new facility over the next several months, with phased transitions and ongoing expansion. This environment offers the opportunity to influence processes and practices at an early stage while working with advanced air traffic surveillance technologies that directly contribute to aviation safety and efficiency.
