POSITION SUMMARY
Functional Medicine is an innovative approach to health and wellness. The Functional Medicine Medical Assistant supports the functional medical providers and nurses and assists with providing care and tools designed to optimize patients’ health.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions Statement(s)
Primary Functions:
- Rooming patients for providers, including chart prep, vital signs, med reconciliation and PHI
- Records patients' medical history, vitals, and information such as test results in medical records
- Responding to communications from providers, coworkers, patients, pharmacies, and other medical professionals and relaying provider orders and/or results for medications, labs and imaging.
- Enters orders in the EMR as authorized by the provider
- Performing care-related tasks such as therapeutic injections as directed by providers
- Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and provider’s instructions to patients
- Documents all communications and care provided to the patient in their medical chart including codes for billable services
- Refills medications and obtains insurance authorizations as ordered by the provider
- Scans external documents into patient record as needed
- Provides cross coverage on the IM clinic floor as needed
- End of Day: Assists with clean up in the team room; cleaning and stocking rooms, closing assigned area, and other end of day activities as assigned
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area
- Adheres to HIPAA guidelines regarding protected health information
- Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all standards for Universal Blood and Body Fluid precautions
- Maintains proficient knowledge of organization emergency procedures
- Participates in clinic process improvement activities and team meetings to ensure efficient operations
- Other duties as assigned

Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
Experience:
- One or two years medical office experience preferred
- EHR experience preferred (we use eClinicalWorks
- Microsoft Office experience a plus
- Bi-lingual candidates strongly considered
