Examples of Work Performed
- Welds, using gas and electric methods.
- Repairs vehicle electrical systems.
- Repairs vehicle body sheet metal, plastics, and paint.
- Performs front and rear alignments and wheel balance.
- Estimates time and material required to repair damaged vehicles/equipment.
- Confers with insurance companies regarding damage and settlements for vehicle repair.
- Maintains related paperwork.

Requirements of Work
- Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trade and the ability to use these tools to perform repair work.
- Knowledge of all types of paints and materials and the ability to mix paint and paint vehicles/equipment.
- Knowledge of properties of metals and plastics and the ability to perform repair work on both.
- Knowledge of and skill and ability to perform gas and electric welding.
- Knowledge of paintless dent repair.
- May require the ability to climb onto equipment and make repairs as much as 25' in height.
- Ability to lift, climb, bend, and twist as necessary to remove, repair, or recondition and replace body, interior, suspension, and drive train parts, and glass.
- Ability to lift and carry bulky objects weighing up to 50 pounds for distances up to 100 ft.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply information contained in technical repair manuals.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and employees of other Departments.
- Attainment of a valid Kansas Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required within one year of hire
- Possession of at least one ASE certification in Trac B2, B3 or B6, plus attainment of at least two such certifications within one year of hire
- Compliance with ASE policy will be required at time of hire and throughout duration of employment.
- Eligible for up to $10,000 annual bonus for ASE certifications as outlined in the ASE policy.
- An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
- Public Works & Utilities is responsible for the operation of many critical systems, such as water and wastewater treatment, the City’s transportation network, and more. Therefore, PW&U employees are the first responders in many emergency situations. When an emergency is declared by the Department Director, or designee, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response, or recovery activities related to the stated emergency
