Job Summary
The jobholder plans, sources and negotiates Transportation Services for bulk to provide to the organization at lowest total cost of ownership. The jobholder is responsible for handling RFXs, obtain and analyze offers and bid comparisons, and leads negotiations through to completion of carrier contracts. The jobholder develops and implements the logistics strategy by managing the carrier and supplier relationships, ensuring that all KPIs, SLAs, and contractual obligations are met. The jobholder identifies opportunities to improve supply chain cost through the optimization process and by sourcing Transportation Services from new and existing suppliers for newly defined lanes or shipping needs, while ensuring sufficient carrier capacity is in place. Work with cross-functional teams, Supply Chain, Operations, Sales & Marketing, Finance to resolve service issues, identify opportunities to improve cost, efficiency and service to Morton Salt’s Customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Actively manage procurement of Transportation Services and maintain assigned contracts.
- Prepare RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs.
- Lead negotiations with carriers to obtain competitive rates, mitigate price increases and ensure carrier capacity requirements.
- Work with \Legal as needed to complete contracts.
- Assist with entry of rates into TMS system accurately and on-time.
- Perform a continuous optimization working with Distribution Managers and Sales & Marketing to determine cost efficient sourcing and lowest cost carrier, utilizing carrier capacity/performance history and customer delivery requirements.
- Monitor daily open orders, shipment error corrections, route guides and manually dispatch carriers at a site or group of sites as needed.
- Coordinate solutions to daily transportation/logistics operational issues with carriers, working with internal and external personnel to ensure seamless on-time deliveries, while exceeding customer expectations and KPI’s/performance metrics.
- Serve as point of contact for carriers and customers in assigned area of responsibility, related to order execution status questions, issues, quality or logistics performance issues.
- Measure, manage and report on performance to established KPI’s.
- Ensure Transportation requirements are met by validating carriers are capable of delivering in accordance with agreed-upon capacity and customer delivery requirements.
- Assist in obtaining signed copies of Bills of Lading for Proof of Delivery Inquiries.
- Lead in providing information for freight invoice discrepancies and monetary freight claim issues.
- Interface independently with internal and external customers at all levels, including senior leadership.
- Participate in or lead special projects as assigned along with communicating project findings/results to logistics team, manufacturing facilities and others as required.
- Support internal projects focusing on continuous improvement, with a focus on eliminating waste, reducing cost and driving pickup and delivery performance with our carriers.
- Identify, document and report on areas of cost savings opportunities related to logistics on an ongoing basis.
- Perform various analysis or reporting such as cost comparison, network optimization reports, customer on-time deliveries, etc.
- Spearhead the identification and evaluation of new carriers to expand capacity and strengthen operational capabilities.
