Job Description
Primary Purpose:
To provide support to all students under the supervision of the school nurse.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
● All Elementary paraeducators must be Highly Qualified (48+ college hours Or college
degree Or take/pass Highly Qualified Assessment).
● Current CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certificate REQUIRED.
● First Aid/CPR certification recommended but training can be provided
Special Knowledge/Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; ability to present information
one-on-one, small group situations..
Experience: Not required but preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
● Able to assist in providing specialized caretaking tasks or procedures as delegable per the Kansas
Nurse Practice Act.
● Communicates with the supervising RN concerning staff/student health concerns.
● Administers immediate first aid and delegated medical assistance (e.g. diapering, tube feeding,
colostomy bags, medication, etc.) to meet immediate health care needs of all students.
● Provides for activities of daily living such as assisting with meals and feeding students as
necessary along with following individualized student Health Care Plans.
● Be able to assist students with ambulation, turning, and positioning patients with necessary
activities for Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, toileting/diapering and providing fresh
water and nourishment between meals as needed.
● Models desired behaviors (e.g. conversation, manners, cleaning activities, listening, everyday
interactions, etc.) for students in multiple settings.
● Attends assigned meetings to acquire and convey information relative to job functions.
● Complete documents regarding student(s) daily activities for the purpose of completing daily
logs and student's hourly activities.
● Work cooperatively with all staff on various tasks and/or assignments.
● Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
● Maintain confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws.
● Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the
department and district.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and phone,
standard classroom technology including computers and peripherals along with
specialized equipment for students such as standers, wheelchairs, walker, etc
Posture: Frequent standing and walking.
Motion: Significant pushing/pulling, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping and fine finger
dexterity.
Lifting: Frequent lifting and carrying (up to 75 pounds),
Environment: Primarily indoors; some outdoor student supervision. Risk for exposure to injury
and/or illness in some varying atmospheric conditions.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress,
solve problems, make decisions and be flexible
Attendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of
Education policies and regulations.
