Job Description

Summary

Accountant II performs accounting functions of variable complexity to ensure an accurate accumulation and reporting of financial data.

Duties and Responsibilities

•    Perform a variety of basic to complex accounting functions, which could include receivables, payables, billings, project cost accounting, payroll accounting, and/or DOE Reporting.

•    Reviews and analyzes accounting data for compliance with policies, procedures, laws, regulations and DOE/NNSA orders. 

•    Interfaces and collaborates with the Finance Accounting and FP&A teams, Program Managers and Project Analysts, as needed.

•    Prepares and submits assigned journal entries, account reconciliations, and maintains the working papers required to record accounting activities; assists in documenting detailed procedures and work instructions.

•    Maintains subsidiary ledgers to support accounting control data and reconciles account balances.

•    Develops and maintains reports used in determining cost variances. Analyze variances, prepare explanations, and investigate significant variances of account balances.

•    Analyzes data to identify recurring problems, then investigates and recommends corrective action.

•    Work with internal and external auditors - answering questions and providing documentation in a timely manner.
 

You Must Have

•    Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, and a minimum two (2) years Accounting or Finance related experience. 
        OR in lieu of a degree four (4) years of Accounting or Finance experience.
•    Ability to travel up to 5% of the time, as determined by the needs of the business.
•    Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by the needs of the business.
•    Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.
•    United States Citizenship
•    Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)
