Job Description

Primary Purpose:
To support the instruconal program by facilitang communicaon for hearing impaired students by
converng voice to sign and sign to voice in their assigned classroom(s) and seng(s).
Qualificaons:
Educaon/Cerficaon: High School diploma (or equivalent) required.
All Elementary Paraeducators must be Highly Qualified (48+ college hours Or college
degree Or take/pass Highly Qualified Assessment).
Cerfied in required form of manual communicaon (ASL, SEE, etc)
Special Knowledge/Skills: Excellent organizaonal, communicaon, and interpersonal skills;
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; Ability to present informaon
one-on-one, small group, and large group situaons to students.
Experience: Job related experience is desired
Major Responsibilies and Dues:
● Adapts classroom acvies, assignments, and materials under the direcon of the licensed staff
member for the purpose of supporng and reinforcing classroom objecves.
● Administers, under supervision, first aid and assistance to medically fragile children (e.g. tube feeding,
toileng, diapering, etc.) to provide the required care for assigned students.
● Aends field trips, extra curricular acvies, sporng events, etc. to provide interpretaon services for
the student and students parcipang.
● Aends a variety of meengs (e.g. staff meengs, in-services, workshops, etc.) for the purpose of
acquiring and conveying informaon relave to job funcons.
● Interprets in meengs and acvies to provide communicaon between voice to sign and sign to voice
for hearing impaired individuals.
● Instructs hearing impaired students, individual or small groups, under the supervision of the teacher to
implement goals and improve student' success by the conversion of language to SEE or ASL.
● Assists in the implementaon of instruconal plans designed by the IEP team for the purpose of
presenng and reinforcing learning concepts previously presented by a licensed staff member.
● Maintains instruconal materials, files, and records and ensures the availability of items, providing
wrien references, and recording progress towards IEP goals and objecves.
● Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of environments (e.g. classrooms, hallways,
cafeteria, community, etc) supporng a safe and posive learning environment.
● Rides school bus with students, as needed, to and from school to provide interpretaon services.
● Communicates with a variety of individuals (e.g. supervising instruconal staff, professional support
personnel, etc.) for the purpose of implemenng IEP objecves and assisng in evaluang progress.
● Models desired behaviors (e.g. conversaon, manners, cleaning acvies, listening, everyday
interacons, etc.) for students in mulple sengs.
● Reports incidents for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a posive
learning environment, and adhering to State Law and school policies as a mandated reporter.
● Ability to learn, understand, and reteach appropriate curriculum to meet student needs.
● Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
● Maintain confidenality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws.
● Perform other dues as assigned to ensure the efficient and effecve funconing of the
department and district.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and phone:
Standard classroom technology including computer and peripherals; Ability to operate
equipment used in instruconal media machines and specialized equipment for the
hearing impaired.
Posture: Prolonged standing; Frequent walking, pushing/pulling, occasional kneeling/squang,
occasional bending/stooping.
Moon: Frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; Occasional reaching; Significant use of hands
and fine motor dexterity.
Liing: Occasional light liing and carrying (up to 20 pounds).
Environment: Primarily indoors; some outdoor student supervision.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interrupons; Maintain emoonal control under stress;
Solve problems; Make decisions and be flexible.
Aendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable aendance/punctuality as required by the Board of
Educaon policies and regulaons.
Clearances: Background check and current TB test
