Position Specific Responsibilities The High Energy Physics (HEP) group at Wichita State University (WSU) has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher position. Qualified candidates are invited to apply. Led by Professor Mathew Muether, the WSU HEP group is currently participating in the NOvA and DUNE neutrino experiments. We are looking for an outstanding postdoc candidate to join these efforts focused on scientific computing interfaces, DUNE near detector muon spectrometer design/prototyping and neutrino interaction physics enabled by novel analysis techniques including deep learning-based reconstruction. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to participate on both the NOvA and DUNE experiments and focus on projects aspects aligned with the specific strengths, experience, and interests of the applicant. The WSU HEP group also provides cooperative opportunities for the candidate with our particle theory and spaced-based detector efforts.
Summary of Responsibilities: Administers a variety of studies within scientific or scholarly area of expertise. Performs research study analyses, writes reports and publications, and coordinates with others in carrying out research.
Essential Functions
- .Participates with others on research projects. Builds upon previous or concurrent research. Develops research projects through a variety of methods, collaborations and analyses.
- Gathers data and develops statistical analyses to assimilate and interpret research results. Resolves data and/or research issues.
- Researches, writes and communicates research progress and outcomes.
- Maintains research facility data, equipment, and specimens to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
- May supervise the work of others.
Requirements
Minimum Education: Doctorate degree in scientific related field by hire date
Preferred Education: PhD in Experimental Particle Physics or a closely related field.
Minimum Experience: One (1) year of experience in scientific research laboratory or related field
Preferred Experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Skills in instrumentation, data analysis, and scientific computing.
- Effective written/verbal communication skills along with critical thinking ability to interpret and respond to diverse groups of people in various situations.
- Proficiency in modern object oriented computer languages (example: C++, Python)
- Ability to exercise appropriate personal initiative and accountability with exceptional follow through, attention to details, and track and meet deadlines. Strong time management, organizational, and data management skills
