Position Summary & Responsibilities: Amusement Ride Auditor

The Industrial Safety & Health division of the Kansas Department of Labor is recruiting an Amusement Ride Auditor for the western part of Kansas. This position plays a key role in safeguarding the operation of amusement rides across the state by ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and industry safety standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough on-site audits of amusement ride operators to verify compliance with state laws, regulations, ASTM standards, and industry best practices 
  • Evaluate completion of critical safety activities, including daily pre-opening inspections, ride maintenance, and operator training 
  • Prepare clear, concise reports documenting audit findings, identified deficiencies, and required or recommended corrective actions 
  • Collaborate with management teams to support timely resolution of safety issues and compliance gaps 
  • Perform follow-up inspections to confirm corrective measures have been fully implemented 
  • Work occasional irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, in alignment with amusement ride operating schedules 

Additional Duties:

  • Support the development, maintenance, and monitoring of processes for ride owner registration and permitting 
  • Review registration materials and ride permit applications for completeness and compliance 
  • Assist in identifying unregistered amusement ride operators and provide guidance on registration and permitting requirements 
  • Initiate enforcement actions when necessary, including warnings, notices of violation, or cease and desist orders for noncompliance 
  • Contribute to administrative or legal proceedings by supplying documentation and relevant findings to hearing officers or judges 

This role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a commitment to public safety through consistent enforcement and education.
