Job Description
Meter Technician Department: ELECTRIC DISTRIBUTION Pay Rate:$18.59 to $25.00 DOQ Location: Wellington, KS 67152 Status:Open Position Summary Responsible for reading, recording and reporting of utility consumption and infrastructure locations for the City of Wellington. Essential Functions- Connects and disconnects electric and water meters upon request of the Utility Billing Division
- Responds to locate requests and marks the City underground facilities accurately
- Collects mapping data for utility mapping and edits map if needed
- Checks to determine consistency of meter readings, reporting any unusual circumstances
- Reads electric and water meters on assigned routes and accurately records readings when asked
- Monitors the AMI system for issues and adds meters
- Checks to ensure meters are functioning properly, reporting defective meters to supervisor
- Reports any noticeable or potential field problems relating to any public works or public safety hazards
- Operates a city vehicle in daily performance of duties and performs basic maintenance checks on vehicles
- Reports any noticeable damaged or tampered meters
- Provides customer service by answering customer questions
- Attends training seminars and classes as required
- Cross trains in suitable positions in other City departments as needed
- Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state and local laws and ordinances
- Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
- Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
- Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools and other aids as required or needed
- Protects and maintains any confidential information you have access to, whether oral, written, or electronic
- High school diploma or other equivalent
- Basic computer and data entry experience
- Previous plumbing, electrical or utility related experience preferred
- Valid Kansas Driver’s License and be insurable on the City’s insurance
- Ability to read GIS maps and make necessary approved changes
- Capable of accurately utilize line locating equipment
- Ability to read meters and perform data entry of readings
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently
- Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner
- Analyze facts and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to effectively manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
