Job descriptionMaize High School is seeking a full-time school Social Worker for the 2026-27 school year.
• *Primary Purpose:**
To support the instructional program with specific responsibilities for providing social work services for students across various classrooms to special education services; assessing students' social- emotional needs; providing intervention strategies; ensuring services are in compliance with county, state, and federal requirements; providing information on support services available to eligible students; and referring students and families to other agencies.
- Education/Certification: Master’s degree in Social Work and valid licensed with BSRB (LMSW, LSCSW)
- Special Knowledge/Skills: Assessment instruments, strong communication skills, knowledge of disabilities and the impact on academic achievement, knowledge of behavior interventions, community resources
- Experience: Job related experience within a specialized field
- Assess students’ social and emotional needs (e.g. executive functioning, social skills, financial medical, parenting skills, etc.)
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and phone, standard classroom technology including computer and peripherals
- Posture: Prolonged sitting, frequent walking, pushing/pulling, occasional kneeling/squatting, occasional bending/stooping
- Motion: Frequent keyboarding and use of mouse, occasional reaching
- Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (up to 20 pounds), some pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity
- Environment: Primarily indoors, some outdoor supervision

- to develop and implement individualized plans of services to support educational objectives
- Assist students and families with a variety of outside services agencies (e.g. mental health, medical, prenatal care, counseling, job training, etc.)
- to provide referrals for families and students
- Use de-escalation techniques and apply physical restraint practices when appropriate
- Consult with teachers, parents, and other personnel to determine student needs, and develop plans for services, making recommendations, and providing requested information
- Counsel students and parents to resolve issues that may impede student success
- Develop individual education plan goals and other written materials for student IEPs supporting established strategies/opportunities for student success
- Facilitate social work sessions (e.g. grief, stress, social thinking, etc.) and assist attendees in resolving issues and creating positive change
- Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars as assigned (e.g
- IEPs, general education intervention meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and gathering information required to perform job functions
- Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, memos, intervention strategies, Medicaid billings, reports, required documentation, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and conveying information
- Responds to a variety of inquiries to resolve problems, provide information, and refer to appropriate personnel
- Serves as a liaison between a variety of groups and individuals (e.g. students, outside agencies, etc.) supporting the facilitation of communication between participants while ensuring compliance and continuity of care
- Travels to multiple work sites and provides social services to students
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals and provides feedback to building principals as to their performances
- Works cooperatively with staff on various tasks and/or assignments
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Maintain confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the school and district
