Job Summary
The Manager, Association Health Plans (AHP) & National/Special Accounts is responsible for supporting revenue and membership growth. The portfolio includes Association Health Plans, National, & Special Accounts. This role executes retention and growth strategies, supports new business development, and ensures alignment with organizational objectives and market needs. In collaboration with the Director, Association Health Plans & National/Special Accounts and other key sales leadership, the Manager plays a defining role in developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and business partners, participating and executing in corporative initiatives, and ensuring compliance and service.
What you'll do
- Execute sales, retention, and growth strategies for Association Health Plans, National, and Special Accounts, including the State Employee Health Plan, Federal Employee Program, and National Alliance relationships.
- Lead assigned strategic initiatives and pilot programs aligned to the execution of long-term sales and retention priorities, including cross-functional initiatives, process improvements, and market-specific growth strategies.
- Translate enterprise strategy into initiative-level plans and measurable execution roadmaps.
- Manage day-to-day high-level client, broker, and partner relationships to support new business development, renewals, and customer retention.
- Coach, train, and evaluate sales staff to identify capability gaps to inform future workforce needs.
- Coordinate communication with the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, Blue Plans, and third-party administrators for National and Key Accounts.
- Oversee enrollment, contract execution, renewals, and service delivery to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Provide consultative guidance to clients, including benefit recommendations, issue resolution, and competitive analysis with established guidelines.
- Analyze market conditions, regulatory changes, and reform trends, and provide strategic recommendations to leadership.
- Manage assigned operational budgets, expenses, personnel records, reporting within company systems and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Strong consultative sales, relationship management, and customer service skills with the ability to understand and articulate customer business needs.
- Ability to communicate complex insurance concepts clearly to diverse audiences using multiple communication methods.
- Knowledge of Association Health Plans, insurance products, sales practices, and industry trends.
- Working knowledge of federal and state insurance regulations, funding arrangements, and rating practices.
- Proven objection-handling, negotiation, and closing skills in competitive sales environments.
- Ability to coach and guide others while working independently and exercising sound judgment.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret contracts, financial impacts, and non-standard benefit arrangements.
- Effective time management, prioritization, and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with business systems, sales databases, and standard office technology.
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours and accessible via phone, text, and/or email.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business administration, health care, finance/economics or related field, preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years of direct sales experience specializing in group health insurance required.
- Minimum two (2) years' experience in managing self-funded, complex group health plans required.
- Experience with enterprise business to business (B2B) sales, National Account consulting, high value account sales/retention in a brokerage environment, or work history at another Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan is highly preferred.
- Experience in leading people and directing resources to achieve business objectives is required.
- Required to obtain a Kansas insurance agent's license within 60 days of hire. License must be maintained throughout employment.
- Valid driver's license and a driving record that qualifies for the company automobile insurance required. License must be maintained through employment.
- A non-compete agreement is required.

- Occasional walking, bending, or reaching within the office environment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, or reach.

- Ability to travel up to 75% within the assigned territory.
Compensation
$135,440 - $169,300 annually
Exempt Grade 19

The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.
