Position Summary:  

The Clinical Program Director / Acute Program Administrator provides clinical leadership and operational oversight for acute-care clinical departments, including social work, activity therapy, and psychology. The role serves as a senior manager reporting to the Superintendent and is accountable for clinical operations, patient flow, and overall treatment effectiveness.

The position serves as a liaison with nursing, medical staff, and other hospital programs to support coordinated, high-quality, patient-centered care. The administrator directs program development, implementation, and evaluation, including staffing, clinical workflows, and quality improvement initiatives. The position collaborates with hospital leadership to maintain regulatory compliance, promote professional development, and enhance patient outcomes. The role also supports timely, safe, and efficient patient flow, in collaboration with community partners.

Responsibilities include supervising clinical department heads, supporting interdisciplinary treatment, ensuring alignment with hospital mission and standards, and maintaining operational readiness within available resources. This position may require availability by phone and in person to support operational needs. 

 

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Clinical Program Administration

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the Acute Program, ensuring operations align with hospital mission, vision, and regulatory standards.
  • Direct leaders and staff within the Acute Program reporting hierarchy, ensuring effective supervision, performance management, and professional development.
  • Oversee staffing, recruitment, retention, and scheduling to maintain adequate coverage and safe staff-to-patient ratios.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate program policies, procedures, and clinical workflows.
  • Monitor program performance, including patient outcomes, quality metrics, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with hospital administration and clinical leadership on strategic planning, resource allocation, and operational readiness.
  • Support timely, safe, and efficient patient flow, including attention to throughput and length-of-stay goals.

Clinical Oversight & Performance

  • Provide clinical oversight and consultation to therapy, social work, and other assigned clinical staff to ensure consistent, evidence-based care.
  • Participate in treatment planning and interdisciplinary team meetings, offering guidance on complex clinical issues.
  • Review and approve clinical documentation, treatment protocols, and program-specific materials.
  • Ensure clinical services follow standards of practice, hospital policy, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with crisis intervention or clinical escalation as needed within the acute program.
  • Participate in clinical risk-management activities in collaboration with nursing, medical staff, and hospital leadership.

Coordination & Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison with nursing leadership, medical staff, and other hospital programs to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration among therapy, social work, nursing, and medical teams.
  • Support effective communication with patients, families, and community partners to promote care coordination and safe discharge planning.
  • Participate in hospital-wide and program-specific committees focused on quality improvement, risk management, and staff development.

Licensure, Compliance & Professional Standards

  • Maintain required professional licensure, certifications, and mandatory trainings.
  • Support staff training, onboarding, and competency development, including orientation of new hires.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness, disaster response, and other institutional readiness activities.
  • Perform additional duties as required to ensure safe, effective, and compliant program operations.

 

Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism. Assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.
