Job Description
The Assistant Codes Administrator works under the general supervision of the Community Development Director and is responsible for supervising and conducting inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial structures to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety regulations, and municipal ordinances.
The position supports the City's code enforcement program by monitoring and enforcing zoning, property maintenance, nuisance housing, health and safety, and land-use regulations. The role also serves as a resource to property owner, businesses, residents, and city departments regarding code requirements and compliance procedures.
Code Compliance and Inspections
- Supervise and conduct inspections of buildings and properties to ensure compliance with building, electrical, gas, mechanical, and plumbing codes approved by the City governing body.
- Inspect structures during construction, renovation, demolition, relocation, and alteration phases.
- Perform field inspections to evaluate structural integrity, foundation conditions, electrical systems, HVAC systems, and general safety compliance.
- Conduct re-inspections to verify corrections and ensure repairs or alterations meet required standards.
- Issue violation notices, corrective notices, and stop work orders when necessary.
Code Enforcement
- Supervise and enforce municipal ordinances related to zoning, land use, property maintenance, nuisance housing, blight, graffiti, water waste, and public safety.
- Investigate citizen complaints and reported violations and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Inspect exterior and interior property conditions including structural deterioration, unsafe conditions, waste disposal, and zoning compliance.
- Coordinate with property owners, managers, and agencies to achieve code compliance and issue stop-work orders when required.
