Vermillion Elementary School is seeking a school nurse for the 2026-27 school year. The School Nurse will implement district health services programs to best meet the needs of the student population at the school. Provide health services to students. Promote health and safety education and preventive health practices for students.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
• Provide direct care using professional assessment skills, the nursing process, individualized healthcare plans (IHPs), and established school health protocols.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
• Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.
• Assess student problems, communicate with parents regarding individual students, including notifications of accident or illness, and ensure appropriate referrals and follow up as needed.
• Serve as a liaison between school personnel, the family, healthcare professionals, and the community.
• Secure emergency medical care for students as needed.
• Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and evaluate outcomes of skilled and direct nursing care and procedures for medically fragile students to ensure safe integration of the student into the school environment.
• Serve as a health advocate for students.
• Ensure that medications are administered to students according to district policy and procedures.
• Establish and implement effective procedures for carrying out mandatory screening programs.
• Participate in development of health education curriculum, educate faculty and staff as needed on health-related topics, and provide health education to individuals and groups including contributing to communications to parents and the local community regarding health issues.
• Collaborate closely with building principal and other staff and provide leadership to ensure a healthy school environment. Work to meet the health needs of the general school population and those students with identified health conditions.
• Participate in general education intervention, Section 504, or IEP meetings of students with identified health needs. Work with district personnel regarding implementation of IEP goals and services.
• Advise campus administration in crisis or emergency situations and participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
• Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including health room records and accurate and confidential student health records such as immunization records, medication administration records, individual student treatment records, and IHPs.
• Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain health room inventory.
• Comply with policies established by federal and state laws and regulations and board policy.
• Respond to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
• Make contact with and/or home visits when necessary in the care of students.
• Prepare and submit reports as required by district and the state.
• Advise staff on health concerns.
• Attend committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health curriculum.
• Train and delegate to paraprofessionals per the Kansas Nurse Practice Act.
• Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Supervisory Responsibilities: May provide daily direction to paraprofessionals

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and phone, standard Medical clinic equipment and special needs adaptive equipment

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing. Frequent walking.

Motion: Significant pushing/pulling, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping and fine finger dexterity.

Lifting: physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects

Environment: Primarily indoors; some outdoor student supervision. Risk for exposure to injury and/or illness in some varying atmospheric conditions. Crowded and noisy environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities: May provide daily direction to paraprofessionals
