Job Description

First Step at Lake View offers substance abuse treatment designed to meet the unique needs of women, pregnant women, and women with dependent children. Treatment interventions include non-medical detox, short term residential treatment, intensive outpatient services with or without supportive housing, outpatient counseling and primary healthcare collaboration. A licensed childcare, parenting, case management and mental health services are integrated into the holistic treatment program. First Step at Lake View is situated in a quiet campus setting with large areas of green space and relaxing views from all areas of the grounds and a high-quality children’s playground. Outpatient substance abuse or mental health counseling are offered via tele-health technology or in office sessions.

The Food Services Manager oversees food services, purchases food products and maintains hygiene standards for the program kitchen and dining room areas.

Position Overview:


- Oversees client menu planning and meal preparation
- Prepares meals in accordance with current KDHE Consumer Food and Lodging regulations
- Directs clients to program resources
- Keeps hygiene standards for kitchen and dining room areas in accordance with all applicable state and local regulations
- Addresses client food service issues when appropriate
- Supports staff with the day-to-day operation of the treatment center
- Provides factual and pertinent information to assist in certain decision-making processes
- Organizes weekly group and individual tutoring sessions to clients on nutrition, cooking and menu planning
- Maintains and presents records, purchasing information, product utilization and menus systematically
- Purchases equipment and supplies per program policy
- Tracks inventory and controls purchasing for kitchen supplies, utensils, linens and equipment
- Holds clients accountable for kitchen supplies, dishes, linens and equipment used
- Reviews Vision cards to ensure program standards are met
- Considers cost effectiveness when planning and/or purchasing of food, supplies and/or equipment

Requirements Include:

- Requires a high school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
- Requires at least two years of related experience in commercial scale food preparation
- Requires a basic understanding of the treatment model utilized
- Requires CPR, AIDS in-service hours and annual TB testing with a negative test result
- Must pass pre-employment background checks, reference checks and drug screening
