Job Description

Job Summary

Manages assigned college readiness and/or retention program(s) to meet business objectives. Oversees the day-to-day program activities which may include project schedules, budget tracking and development, recruiting, and project and/or program administration.

Essential Functions

Collaborates with senior leaders to develop program goals and infrastructure to align with defined business strategy. Creates new or troubleshoots and improves upon existing processes, procedures or systems to meet program goals. Manages program through creation of program plans, grant proposals, management tools and/or reporting capabilities. Performs project research and develops plans to effectively use program resources. Develops metrics to measure program success against program goals. Manages, recruits, trains and/or leads cross-functional teams and ensures resources are appropriately assigned to meet program goals. Recommends program or project budget according to needs. Monitors and adjusts project and program plans as resource requirements change. Communicates and documents program quality outcomes and progress metrics to senior program leaders. Regularly contacts participants, counselors, and partners to ensure program success. Addresses and resolves major or complex issues to ensure program goals remain on track.

Job Duties

• Identify, recruit, select and enroll project participants
• Train and supervise tutors and peer mentors.
• Supervise staff performance in the absence of the Director.
• Interview, select with Director’s approval, train supervise and track tutors.
• Consult the Director for accuracy of the final Annual Performance Report.
• Maintain the tutor database and evaluate all tutors for outcome-based results.
• Focus on improving student grades, maintaining supervision of eligibility requirements to serve 250 students overall.
• Identify, select, enroll and assess the needs of 80 assigned student participants. Schedule monthly advising appointments to provide academic, personal, career, financial aid and graduate school advising.
• Provide degree-planning assistance using WSU’s Navigate software.
• Identify students on probation to provide special advisement.
• Assess and document outcome-based evaluations of tutor services.
• Work with Learning Skills Coordinator to identify and assist students with study skills development, financial literacy skills and completion of the FAFSA application.
• Inform students of the availability of financial aid other than loans.
• Assist with admission and application procedures to Graduate School.
• Provide letters of recommendation to students.
• Assist dismissed student participants to complete the appeal process to readmit them to the university.
• Coordinate the evaluation and awarding of SSS scholarships, under the direction of the Director.
• Provide direction for completion of annual Site Book.
• Obtain National Certification through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) at three levels: Level I, Level II (Advanced), Level III, (Masters).
• Maintain membership in Equal Opportunity Association (EOA).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to collaborate with in-demand industry human resource personnel
• Knowledge of current educational resources to include: information on testing, career planning, college admission, graduate and professional school applications, transfers and financial aid processes
• Ability to assist in identifying, selecting and enrolling SSS project participants, including but not limited to academic, graduate school, career, and financial aid advising
• Knowledge and experience in database management
• Ability to recruit, train and supervise tutors
• Familiar with conducting and facilitating workshops
• Understand barriers similar to those of the SSS project target population and how to support student to overcome them.
• Interpret and complying with federal regulations, operating within their regulations
• Strong organizational, verbal and communication skills
• Ability and willingness to work irregular and flexible hours
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships
