Job Description
Purpose
Foster creativity, artistic skills, and appreciation for the visual arts among students, deliver a comprehensive art curriculum that aligns with state and district standards, promote a positive classroom environment conducive to learning, and supporting students' academic and personal growth.
Essential Functions
• Develops and implements an art curriculum aligned with Kansas State Standards and USD 490 educational goals.
• Plans and delivers engaging lessons that teach art techniques, art history, and creative expression to middle school students.
• Assesses student progress through projects, portfolios, and other evaluations, providing timely feedback to students and parents.
• Creates a safe and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity and respects diverse perspectives.
• Manages classroom supplies and equipment, ensuring proper use and maintenance in accordance with district policies.
• Collaborates with other teachers and staff to integrate art into cross-curricular activities and school events.
• Communicates effectively with students, parents, and administration regarding student progress and classroom activities.
• Supervises students during classroom activities, art exhibitions, and related school events.
General Responsibilities
• Participates in professional development opportunities related to art education and teaching strategies.
• Contributes to school-wide initiatives, such as art exhibitions, assemblies, or community events.
• Maintains accurate records of student grades, attendance, and classroom inventories.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Superintendent.
Physical Requirements
• Requires prolonged standing during classroom instruction and demonstrations.
• Ability to lift and carry art supplies and materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Requires use of equipment, including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue for lesson planning and grading.
• Must be able to demonstrate art techniques and assist students with hands-on projects.
Work Environment
• Must work in a classroom environment with moderate noise levels and frequent student interactions.
• Occasionally works in environments with art supplies, such as paints or clay, requiring proper ventilation and safety precautions.
