Job Description

Great Plains Manufacturing is currently seeking a Forklift Safety Instructor for our forklift safety dojo training program in the CE facility in Salina, KS.  The Forklift Safety Instructor will facilitate a course to develop new forklift operators for Great Plains Manufacturing.  

The forklift dojo will use a combination of class room instruction and hands-on skills practice to train new and current forklift operators on production forklift usage at Great Plains.  The training will focus on inspection, safe driving and safe lifting practices. Students must perform at Great Plains’ safety, quality and production standards to successfully complete this program.   

This is an hourly role that typically works Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., plus overtime, as needed. Occasional evening hours may be required to provide training for 2nd Shift employees. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Train forklift operators to meet safety, quality and production standards.
  • Facilitate class room training and hands-on training in the forklift dojo area.
  • Follow-up on employee safety, quality and productivity standards once they are assigned to their department.
  • Provide coaching and feedback during training program to aid with continuous improvement.
  • Track and administer forklift certification across all Great Plains locations.
  • Consistently initiate and implement improvements to the forklift training program.
  • Perform additional technical training between classes as needed.
  • Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
  • Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Work well with all plant managers and department managers. 
  • Previous on-the-job experience operating a forklift and training forklift operators.
  • Ability to create a technical training plan based on student’s background and experience.
  • Proficient in training students to operate a forklift safety while meeting quality and production standards.
  • Proficient with Great Plains manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, and serves as a role model in safety behavior and wearing PPE.
  • 3-5 years of experience operating a forklift and/or providing technical training to employees.  
  • Strong computer skills in Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Available to work split shifts on occasion to support training for 2nd Shift employees.
