Job Description
SummaryThe Mechanical Engineer II role is a professional level position responsible for performing and analyzing routine to moderately complex engineering functions while applying mathematical, physical science, and engineering technologies. These functions include quality control function designs, and specifications while achieving cost-effective and reliable manufacturing and measuring processes.
Duties and Responsibilities- Participates or leads teams to provide quality input for the development, manufacture, procurement, and acceptance of a variety of products and assemblies
- Develops methods and writes detailed instructions for inspection processes
- Coordinates the design of product acceptance equipment and the ordering of testers, gages, and equipment to support product acceptance
- Provides technical assistance to inspection areas
- Develops and monitors quality metrics, levels, and trends
- Analyzes and makes recommendations regarding product discrepancies
- Evaluates opportunities for defect prevention and implements specific and preventative corrective actions
- Develops test procedures and performs evaluation tests, capability studies, quality audits, data reviews, and other engineering evaluations utilizing Six Sigma methodology
- Interacts with partners, customers, suppliers, and internal organizations to assist in resolving design, development, production, and acceptance issues.
- Prepares evaluation reports, analyzes discrepancies, makes recommendations for and initiates improvements for product, test equipment, procedures, and manufacturing or operating processes that improve productivity and quality and reduce flowtime.
- Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited program in Engineering or Physics
- 2+ years of relevant experience in engineering, analytical, or related technical activities.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
- Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business
- United States Citizenship
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
- Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)
- Demonstrates application of design, development, evaluation, and quality control techniques to routine through engineering projects
- Demonstrates application of analyzing engineering designs and specifications to achieve efficient and reliable manufacturing or acceptance processes
- Look for opportunities to document improvements/innovations in approved and related processes
- Experience working with metal machined parts
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma Tools
- Experience working with ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
