At CDL Electric – On-Track Safety, safety and professionalism are the foundation of everything we do. Grade Crossing Monitors work directly in the field with third-party contractors installing utilities within railroad right of-
way. Every assignment is important, and team members are expected to stay focused, make informed decisions,
and ensure work is completed correctly. Excellence is expected in every task.
Summary
The Grade Crossing Monitor is an entry-level position with CDL Railroad Services. This role is responsible for
ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vehicle traffic through temporary private rail crossings. The position
serves as an introduction to railroad work and provides opportunities to begin learning the fundamentals of the
Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor vehicle traffic through temporary private rail crossings.
- Ensure the safety of all travelers at the crossing.
- Flag and direct public traffic as trains or construction activities occur.
- Complete daily reports detailing activities and observations.
- Perform other assigned by leadership team.
