Job Description
Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for a Library Assistant in the Library Services department. The primary function of the Library Assistant is to assist with the acquisition, bibliographic control, physical processing, and management of new and old print materials for Library Services.
Duties and Responsibilities of Position
30%
- Receive, process, and record new issues of serials, periodicals, journals, newspapers, and microforms
- Modify or update electronic item records for these materials in the library’s online catalog as well as in state and national databases to provide accurate information on library holdings
- Monitoring titles for publication frequency and title changes

- Entry of item records into the online catalog and the physical processing of cataloged monographs and other materials, including the typing of some flags and labels
- Entry of add-on materials where items are added to existing catalog records

- Communicate with subscription agencies to facilitate prompt replacement of missing or damaged periodicals and serials
- Manage other daily operations for serials and periodicals such as compiling statistical reports, ordering supplies, filing forms, processing items received in daily mail, and related clerical duties
- May include training and daily oversight of student workers in the department

- Receive incoming books, check them against the invoice, and enter them into the cataloging workflow
- Maintaining of standing order tracking on a spreadsheet
- Receipt and processing of gift materials, maintaining donor lists, and creating donor and gift correspondence

- Assist with de-accessioning materials from the online catalog by removing item records and OCLC holdings records, as well as weeding of physical volumes.
- May assist with other database maintenance in the online catalog

- Schedule, collect, and prepare for shipping, the periodicals and serials to be bound into physical volumes for preservation purposes
