Job Description
Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for a Assistant Director of Student Support & Case Management. The Assistant Director of Student Support & Case Management is a specialized position which blends the functions of non-clinical student consultation, program coordination of student referrals and intake, systems development and coordination for reporting and maintenance of student cases, and leadership in addressing factors which contribute to student attrition and improve student success. The Assistant Director serves as a key liaison between students, staff, and university systems, managing highly sensitive and confidential issues involving student conduct, behavioral health, and civil rights compliance. This position provides non-clinical case management services and supports Title IX administration, including response coordination, resolution of complaints, and training. The Assistant Director also facilitates referrals, ensures accurate recordkeeping, and contributes to campus climate initiatives promoting equity and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities of Position
35% - Assessment, Intervention, Counsel and Case Management:
- Assesses and responds to complex student concerns and complaints against a university system, process, department, student or employee by analyzing and prioritizing cases, issuing interim actions, consulting, counseling, and providing recommendations to the Dean of Students or designee
- Provides comprehensive assessments, case planning, and management of an array of student issues and concerns informed by evidence-based practices
- Assists in responding to acute mental health emergencies and crisis situations; Conducts student risk assessments (harm towards self or others) under supervision
- Counsels and consults with college community members (students and college employees) regarding multifaceted student concerns such as interpersonal conflicts, crises, behavioral and mental health concerns; Takes appropriate action to resolve issues with students, faculty, and staff
- Leads the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT); engages in behavior-based assessments of students to identify and mitigate barriers to personal and academic success, recommends options to best address student behavioral concerns; assists in the development and maintenance of reporting protocols and processes to proactively identify and engage in early intervention in support of student success
- Provides solution-focused direct services to address a wide range of inter/intrapersonal, social, emotional, psychological, behavioral health, and developmental needs of PSU’s student population
35% - Student Conduct, Investigation, and Adjudication:
- Counsels students regarding Student Code of Conduct issues, formal and informal conflict resolution strategies, and hearing procedures. Interacts with university faculty and staff as necessary
- Conducts investigations into charges of student misconduct (e.g., Student Conduct Code, Title IX, Harassment/Discrimination); creates an investigative plan, conducts interviews with involved parties, makes credibility assessments, prepares and presents summaries of investigations and appropriate supporting documents, and communicates with the parties while protecting the neutrality, integrity, and privacy of the investigation
- Acts as an impartial and unbiased party in the investigation and provides detailed reports summarizing the investigation.
- Serves on formal student conduct administrative decision-making body and/or acts as an advisor
20% - Education Programming and Communications:
- Develops and facilitates activities that support the Dean of Students core functions, including Student Concerns & Complaints, Behavioral Intervention, Student Conduct, Harassment/Discrimination, Title IX & Sexual Misconduct, and Prevention/Awareness programming and training
- Develops and facilitates compliance-related training for the college community in the areas of Title IX regulations, Clery Act, drug-free schools, sexual harassment, and equity
- Develops and facilitates education and training for faculty, staff, and students to showcase Dean of Student resources such as information about health, wellness, and safety procedures/activities; promotes a positive campus culture/climate and encourages personal responsibility and awareness of the Student Code of Conduct
10% - Policy, Procedure, and Process Improvement:
- Assists in creating and maintaining policies, procedures, and protocols
- Participates in the development and execution of annual strategic plan objectives for the Dean of Students and the Director of Institutional Equity & Title IX
- Manages and updates Maxient system configurations. Maintains official conduct records in accordance with institutional policy and relevant laws, utilizing the Maxient Network
