PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Instruction Support Specialist plays a vital role in fostering student success within NexStep Learning Centers. This position provides academic and administrative support across education campuses, serves as an emergency substitute instructor and delivers WorkKeys instruction as needed. The Specialist supports the overall instructional mission of NexStep Alliance and Goodwill Industries of Kansas by helping students overcome barriers, strengthen academic and employability skills, and progress toward educational and employment goals. This role provides direct support to adult learners by advising, mentoring, addressing behavioral concerns and collaborating with instructional staff to ensure a positive and productive learning environment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Assistant Director of Education.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
EXPERIENCE/SPECIAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
- Demonstrates competence in adult education, pedagogy, advising and curriculum support.
- Experience in adult testing procedures and familiarity with WorkKeys or other workplace readiness assessments preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to mentor and motivate adult learners.
- Collaborative and adaptable team player who models professionalism and empathy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supports and sustains a program culture conducive to adult learning and professional growth.
- Provides the necessary contracts, forms, supportive services and documentation in an efficient and timely manner.
- Provide academic administrative support across NexStep campuses.
- Delivers WorkKeys and employability skills instruction for the Goodwill ReEntry program.
- Serves as an emergency substitute instructor when needed.
- Advises students on GED preparation, testing pathways and academic progress.
- Mentors and guides students to promote engagement, persistence and retention.
- Conducts student check-ins to establish goals, identify barriers and make referrals as needed.
- Provides assistance with accommodations to support student success.
- Assists with enrollment and conduct new student orientations.
- Addresses behavioral issues constructively to maintain a positive classroom culture.
- Supports instructional staff in maintaining a productive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Fosters collaboration and communication between students and instructional staff.
- Reviews and tracks attendance, progress and student records for accuracy.
- Assists in implementing and monitoring educational policies and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creates and sustains a learning environment conducive to adult learning and professional growth.
- Provides direct instruction, tutoring or engagement activities that support student academic and career goals.
- Supports AEFLA compliance in curriculum and communication within the program.
- Collects and support implementing state-regulated instructional accommodations.
- Supports and advises students on their educational and employment pathways.
- Creates and enhances WorkKeys curriculum and instructional methodologies.
- Assists education and workforce development staff, participants, and community partners in a professional and timely manner.
- Assists with Facilitating the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).
- Helps students develop work habits such as attendance, punctuality, cooperation and professionalism.
- Provides and maintains all necessary contracts, forms, supportive services and documentation efficiently.
- Tracks attendance and student progress and preparing reports as required.
- Maintains organized and accurate records and files.
- Promotes and supports the accessibility of services and facilities, ensuring inclusion for all students.
- Interacts appropriately and collaboratively with colleagues and community professionals.
- Supports the mission and initiatives of Goodwill Industries of Kansas and NexStep Alliance.
- Adheres to all safety and confidentiality policies and ethical standards and reports and violations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Education.
Note: Must have a mobile phone and maintains it in operating order within phone company's maintenance capabilities. Must be a licensed driver that is insurable. Must pass background check and drug screen. Additionally, all qualified candidates will be asked to submit a writing sample and communications/artwork portfolio.
