Job Description Summary:
The Program Assistant is responsible for providing a clean, safe and reliable transportation for participants of the Health Exploration Program.
Job Description:
Part time, temporary employment from November 2025 through May 2026 to include one 2-hour planning session and twenty 3.5 sessions.
Expectations/Responsibilities:
- Works with KCKPS Transportation bus drivers to provide a clean, safe, and reliable transportation to ensure students benefit from programming.
- Communicates and works effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
- Only allows program student participants on the bus. Student roster will be provided. On occasion for field trip or other purposes, program instructors and staff will get on the bus.
- Ability to pick up and drop off students only at authorized middle and high school stops.
- Maintains behavioral discipline when students are on the bus. Report student behavioral challenges to the appropriate persons if warranted.
- Follows KCKPS Transportation protocol and safety measures.
- Works with KCKPS bus driver to anticipate and troubleshoot challenges such as traffic, weather, road conditions, and schedule changes and make necessary adjustments to ensure student safety and reduce delays.
- Instructs students on safe entering, exiting, and passenger rules.
- Supervises students while they board, leave the bus, and cross the street.
- If the situation calls for, work with the bus driver to perform emergency evacuation of students on the bus.
- Works with KCKPS Transportation personnel to identify morning and afternoon bus.
- Maintains a professional relationship with students.
- Maintains a professional and cordial relationship with your fellow team members.
- Recognizes and works through conflicts in caring ways, invites discussion on differences, and arranges for a third party to assist, if necessary.
Required Qualifications
Work Experience:
- 2 years of related work experience.
- Experience working with rural or urban populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous bus riding or driver experience, district school bus driver, etc
- Previous experience with K-12 students.
Skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Compensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
