Join the City of Wichita as a Maintenance Mechanic at the Airport and play a key role in keeping Wichita’s gateway to the world operating safely and efficiently. This position is essential to maintaining the complex systems, facilities, and equipment that support air travel, passenger experience, and public safety. From passenger boarding bridges and baggage conveyor systems to HVAC, plumbing, and structural repairs, you’ll perform hands-on work that directly impacts airport operations. Working both independently and as part of a skilled team, you’ll ensure reliability, safety, and compliance in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment. This is more than maintenance—it’s contributing to the success of every flight and traveler passing through Wichita.

Examples of Work Performed
- Inspects structures, systems and equipment to evaluate need for repairs.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs of plumbing and HVAC systems, including lubrication and replacement of filter media.
- Maintains, repairs, and rebuilds pumps and related fluid distribution equipment.
- Installs doors; patches cement walks, floors and foundations; patches and lays tile and carpet. Constructs and installs shelving and cabinetry, partitions and other wooden parts; painting and refinishing; facility remodeling; other carpentry trade related tasks.
- Repairs valves, gauges, pumps, wiring, switches, fixtures and motors.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on passenger boarding bridges and auxillary equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on baggage conveyor systems and related support and auxillary equipment.
- May perform some limited "lead" responsibilities of other employees depending on expertise in the trade, system or project.
- Performs snow and ice removal operations during winter season.
- Records labor, materials, budget codes and other required information into computerized facility data information system.
- Completion of work assignments will require the operation of a vehicle.

Requirements of Work
- Thorough knowledge of modern methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in fluid distribution systems.
- Thorough knowledge of building construction and building equipment operation.
- Working knowledge of conveyor or bag handling systems.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to apply technical policies, standards, and regulations.
- Ability to hear and speak over the telephone, company radio and VHF radio.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to record information accurately, both in writing and electronically
- Ability to use a computer to access, interpret and record information.
- Ability to read and interpret technical repair and maintenance manuals.
- Ability to work under sound conditions of up to 100 decibels with appropriate ear protection.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, work at heights of up to 30', bend and twist as necessary to repair equipment.
- Ability to tolerate working conditions that may include jet engine fumes, odors and exhaust.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds; to lift and carry up to 120 pounds with the assistance of another person.
- Ability to work outdoors during inclement weather performing maintenance or snow removal activities.
- Ability and willingness to work any shift, holidays and mandatory overtime during times of critical need.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and representatives of other organizations.
- Ability to distinguish colors and brightness accurately under day or night conditions.
- Far vision sufficient to determine condition of internal and external facilities and equipment during normal, emergency and adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to pass the federal security background investigation required by the DHS/Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to acquire and maintain airport security identification and access control media.
- Ability to pass required AOA and Airport Security Access training as required by FAA and TSA regulations.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas drivers license.
- May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas class A commercial driver's license (CDL).
- An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Must pass a ten-year background investigation that includes employment, driver's license, security threat assessment and criminal history.
