Job Description Summary:
The Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center will provide diagnostic expertise in head and neck/ENT pathology and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care. The role includes diagnostic sign-out of surgical pathology cases, participation in frozen section services, and active involvement in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows. In addition, the Assistant Professor will engage in scholarly activity, research collaboration, and departmental academic initiatives.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is experiencing rapid growth and has established a subspecialization practice model, performing more than 5.5 million tests and accessioning over 56,000 surgical pathology cases annually across a wide variety of specialties. There is a strong ENT surgery program with approximately 2,000 cases per year, offering significant clinical exposure in head and neck pathology. The Department and The University of Kansas Health System are an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, providing robust opportunities for clinical and translational research both within the Department and across the Medical Center.

- Provide diagnostic sign-out in head and neck/ENT pathology and other assigned subspecialty areas.
- Perform general surgical pathology frozen section services.
- Contribute to the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows.
- Develop and support clinical and translational research projects in collaboration with departmental and institutional partners.
- Engage in departmental and divisional conferences, teaching rounds, and academic activities.
- Pursue ongoing professional development and maintain expertise in head and neck pathology and related fields.

Required Qualifications
Education: MD, DO or equivalent.
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Board certification in Anatomic Pathology
- Hold, or eligible for, unrestricted licensure for the practice of medicine in Kansas.
