Job Description

Perform general office duties as assigned by County Attorney or Office Manager. Monitor inventory of office supplies. Report copy numbers to contracted copy companies. Liaison between office and office equipment businesses.  Answer multi-line telephone for all staff and direct calls to appropriate persons. Greet and assist attorneys, officers and other visitors to the office. Direct visitors to appropriate person or courtroom. Check witnesses in and find them a place to wait until they testify. Refer to other agencies. Maintain security for office and ensure KCJIS compliance by maintaining visitors register. Close and lock up office at the end of each business day.  Keep the primary office calendar for all staff, recording all court dates and appointments.  Prepare and distribute daily calendar to staff and outside agencies.  Assist subpoenaed witnesses and victims.  Receive and receipt affidavits and notices to appear from law enforcement.  Input all reports and citations into Karpel.  Prepare outgoing mail. Prepare criminal files for close out status and log them.  Assist with adult criminal correspondence and document preparation.  Review case files and draft adult felony journal entries as required by law and to comply with the Kansas Sentencing Commission requirements.  Compute jail time credit by reviewing booking records from the Saline County Jail and considering whether the cases are concurrent or consecutive in order to calculate a sentence begins date.  Review court files and draft misdemeanor journal entries.  . Perform other duties as assigned. Operate a word processor, computer, copier, calculator, fax machine, scanner, multi-line phone and typewriter.

Requirements Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Must have a High School diploma or the equivalent. 
  2. Must be able to accurately type 60 words per minute.
  3. Must have knowledge of general office practices.
  4. Must be able to work with the public in a congenial manner.
  5. Must have experience and/or training in the operation of a personal computer, preferably in Microsoft Office Products.
  6. Must be able to operate a multi-line phone system.

Physical Requirements:
Determined Work Level: Level 3 Medium Work Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Ability to bend, squat, reach, lift, carry, push, pull, pick, pinch and climb a step ladder to access and handle files and file drawers. Ability to lift and locate files to appropriate location. Must have fine and gross manual dexterity to operate computer, telephone, calculator, and computer.

Certificate Needed Veteran's Preference:
