Job Description
Basic Function
Under direction, on an assigned shift, maintains and operates sewage treatment plant, and related functions, and performs a variety of skilled tasks in the care and maintenance of plant equipment, facilities, and grounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs laboratory tests as required; Performs minor repairs and standard maintenance to plant and substation equipment; Maintains grounds around plant and lagoons; Performs additional duties as assigned
QualificationsAbility to perform minor repairs to plant equipment; Ability to execute appointed tasks in accordance with established safety procedures; Ability to read gauges and recording devices; Ability to keep routine records; Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools; Ability to listen to, follow and communicate oral and written instructions; Ability to work well with a small team
Special RequirementsA current Kansas driver’s license; Must become certified as a Kansas Class I Wastewater Treatment Operator within eighteen months of employment; Compliance with state-mandated continuing education requirements; Must be available to work nights, in shifts, overtime, and weekends
Miscellaneous InformationEducation and Experience -- Completion of high school or GED; Two years’ experience applying mechanical knowledge or the principles of chemistry preferred. Physical Requirements -- Intense physical effort is required. Individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time. Working Conditions -- Work involves continuous exposure to hazardous substances, potentially dangerous situations, unpleasant work conditions such as adverse weather conditions or extreme risk of accident or ill health.
